We are seeking a warm, friendly, energetic and collaborative part-time Cantor/Cantorial Soloist for a 12-week maternity leave coverage starting on Saturday, August 31. The focus of this role is to lead a portion of services for our monthly Friday Nights, weekly Shabbat mornings and High Holidays through Simchat Torah at a USCJ affiliated Synagogue in Rockville Centre, NY.

Congregation B’nai Sholom-Beth David is an Egalitarian, Conservative, multi-generational Synagogue that has been serving the South Shore of Long Island’s Jewish Community for over 100 years.

Our ideal candidate is someone who possesses the following attributes:

  • Skilled and experienced in performing the liturgy and traditional melodies of the traditional Friday Night, Shabbat Morning and High Holiday through Simchat Torah services with enthusiasm, authenticity and fluency of Hebrew pronunciation.
  • Deep understanding of Jewish traditions, customs and rituals, particularly those associated with Shabbat and holiday services.
  • Work closely with our Rabbi and lay High Holiday choir in the planning and execution of services, including weekly meetings starting in September.

 Working Conditions:

This is a part-time, maternity leave coverage position with hours concentrated around a total of three Friday Night services, weekly morning Shabbat Services and High Holy Day observances through Simchat Torah. Rosh Hashanah—Day 1: Morning & Evening Services; Day 2: Morning Service Only. Yom Kippur: Kol Nidre, Morning Service, Afternoon Service, Yizkor/Community Yizkor and Neilah, Sukkot, Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate, prepare and lead all musical aspects of prayers with a focus on creating a meaningful and engaging participatory experience.
  • Work with our High Holiday lay choir, including 4 rehearsals beginning in September.
  • Ability to guide and inspire congregants through prayer, creating a spiritually enriching experience.

Compensation

The salary for this position is competitive and will be commensurate with the selected candidate's experience and qualifications.
