Position Summary 

The Director of Major Gifts, reporting to the Chief Development Officer, plays a vital role in growing contributed revenue for the JCC and its programs, cultivating the agency-wide culture of philanthropy, and ensuring that the JCC is a home for highly accountable philanthropic investment. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Manages the Major Gift Program of the JCC including overseeing the management process of all major donor portfolios.
  • Uses data, as well as partners with the Development Coordinator and Individual Giving Manager, to identify, manage and steward current and potential major donors by business unit.  
  • Develops and implements donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans for donor portfolios (e.g., gifts, endowments, sponsorships, etc.) in conjunction with the CDO and CEO.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with major gift donors through personalized engagement and stewardship activities, such as one-on-one meetings, events, and recognition programs.
  • Partners with program leaders to support Culture of Philanthropy, donor stewardship and fundraising strategies.
  • Develops, implements, and manages Legacy (planned giving) strategies and programs.
  • Contributes to ensuring CRM information is appropriately used to set and measure objectives, as well as ensuring it is accurately maintained.
  • Attends and volunteers at JCC programs and events as an FRD representative.
  • Participates in supporting various FRD fundraising activities.
  • Represents and promotes the JCC in a positive and professional manner within the community.
  • Assumes Manager on Duty responsibilities as assigned which may include approximately 2-3 weekend shifts per year.
  • Actively promotes and practices the organization’s Rules of Positive Communication.
  • Performs other duties and assumes additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements (KSAs) 

1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

2. High-level skills in planning and strategic thinking. 

3. Strong attention to detail.

4. Exceptional organizational and time management skills. 

5. Knowledge of philanthropy and fundraising principles.

6. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft and CRM platforms. Ability to learn new software. 

7. Ability to work with confidential data and maintain the same. 

8. Ability to easily cultivate and sustain professional relationships with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds. 

9. Ability to contribute effectively in both autonomous and team environments while appropriately discerning between the two. 

10. Ability to manage conflict and demonstrated ability to make decisions based upon a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience and judgment. 

11. Ability to attend evening and weekend events. 

Education and/or Experience 

• Bachelor’s degree required. 

• 5 years of experience in fundraising is preferred.

• Experience with major gifts and planned giving is preferred. 

• Experience with fundraising software platforms is preferred.
