Position Title: Director of Strategic Philanthropy, Atlanta Jewish Foundation
Reports To: Vice President, Philanthropic Advisory
Position Summary
The Atlanta Jewish Foundation is looking for a seasoned, creative, motivated, flexible, detail-oriented, and proactive Director of Strategic Philanthropy to join our efforts as we expand the ways we engage with donors in the community, integrating traditional grantmaking with innovative approaches such as impact investing and multi-generational family philanthropy. You will be designing and implementing strategies that align with the foundation’s mission, values, and long-term goals, while fostering meaningful partnerships and maximizing social impact here in Atlanta, in Israel, and the world, helping philanthropists give in alignment with their Jewish values. As a trusted philanthropic partner, you will develop sustained relationships with donors and their families and provide consultation to donors and their professional advisors to retain and grow contributions through philanthropic vehicles to meet donors’ needs. You will play a key role in helping the Atlanta Jewish Foundation fulfill its strategic milestones.
Organizational Overview
The Atlanta Jewish Foundation is part of the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta and manages over $400 million in charitable assets within a portfolio of over 1000 funds, comprised of Donor-Advised Funds, Restricted Funds, Agency Funds and Endowments. As Jewish Atlanta continues to grow, the Atlanta Jewish Foundation intends to play a bold and creative role as the center for Jewish strategic philanthropy.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive philanthropic strategy to significantly grow our business focused on grantmaking, impact investing, and family philanthropy.
- Increase revenue coming into the foundation from several revenue sources, both existing and new, partnering with the Director of Business Development and other key colleagues across the organization to boost reach.
- Provide philanthropic advising for high-net-worth families, strengthen our generational philanthropic services offering, maximize our client retention rate and satisfaction, and grow consistently our donor-base year after year.
- Investigate and develop strategy for socially responsible and mission-aligned investing.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to align philanthropic initiatives with organizational priorities and community needs, working closely with the impact team to identify opportunities for cross-collaboration.
- Develop ongoing processes and metrics to evaluate and evolve philanthropic approaches.
- Establish new partnerships with mission-aligned advisors, community leaders, philanthropic peers and nonprofit partners to advance the foundation’s impact goals.
- Develop a plan for Requests for Proposals, evaluation, relationship management and impact assessment.
- Represent the foundation at conferences, convenings, and public forums throughout the year.
- Communicate the foundation’s impact through storytelling, reports, and presentations.
- May require work outside of regular office hours for events.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in public administration, social impact, finance, or related field preferred. Minimum of 8 years of experience in philanthropy, impact investing, or nonprofit leadership. Deep understanding of family philanthropy dynamics and governance. Proven track record in designing and implementing strategic initiatives. Strong financial acumen and experience with investment analysis. Excellent communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills. A high degree of professionalism, confidentiality, and integrity. Demonstrated understanding and commitment to the Jewish and Atlanta community.
Must have reliable transportation, valid State of Georgia driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance for traveling to outside meetings and events as well as occasional transporting of materials.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with high-net-worth families or family foundations. Familiarity with ESG, PRI, and other responsible investment frameworks. Ability to navigate complex interpersonal and organizational dynamics with discretion and empathy.
Physical Requirements
Minimal physical effort required with intermittent standing and walking and prolonged periods of sitting in meetings or at a desk working with a computer.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $110,000 - $132,000 plus a comprehensive benefits package. The anticipated salary is near the midpoint and commensurate with experience.
