Manager of Building Operations and Finance 

 

Overall Responsibilities:

This member of the professional team will manage the day-to-day building and financial operations of the organization, ensuring a well-run facility and clear sense of budget and financial well-being, for both the lay leaders and professional teams;  Broadly, you will be responsible for all aspects of the physical plant and the workings therein, as necessary to allow religious services, programming, and educational offerings to operate, with full knowledge and confidence that the operational needs of each is satisfied. 

As an integrated senior member of the SPS professional leadership team and community, you will collaborate with other team members and lay leaders. Demonstrating a keen ability to work independently yet understanding the importance of collaboration with staff and volunteers to further the mission and goals of the Synagogue and Schools, is critical to this role.

Facility and Systems Management:

  • Ensure proper management of external vendors (e.g. architects, contractors, maintenance providers, Departments of Buildings, Health, and Fire, AudioVisual systems, Insurances, Licensure, so that the building and physical plant remain up to code and in compliance with all rules and laws to allow for SPS (including our nursery school) operations to continue;
  • Hire and coordinate all A/V consultants to executive A/V needs for services and programs
  • Coordinate IT systems; Keep current on technological advances in software and hardware as well as audio/visual technology and make purchase recommendations as appropriate to the President/Board of Trustees;
  • Supervise and manage the facilities team and work closely with the outsourced security company to ensure proper protocol

 

Financial Management:

  • Serve as the key staff member responsible for budgets, payroll and benefits, invoices (both external payments, internal reimbursements, and school billings), and audits and provide timely information about budgets and finances to stakeholders (lay and professional)
  • Oversee management of remote/outsourced services provided to SPS such as offsite bookkeeping service (or onsite bookkeeper if applicable) and auditors;
  • Play a key role in securing external revenue (grants, rentals, sponsorships) that will contribute to the growth of revenue outside of dues, tuitions, and members’ philanthropy

 

Human Resources Management:

  • Participate in the onboarding of new employees and ensuring proper conclusion of employee status
  • Oversee all HR-related issues including liaising with Insurance broker for benefits

 

Perform other related duties as assigned or required; duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted or changed to meet the Senior Staff’s needs at their discretion. 

 

This is an in-person, full time, exempt position that is a dual report to the Director of Membership, Development, and Strategy as well as to the Senior Rabbi/CEO.

 

About You-

  • You have held positions at other organizations, which have given you a wide variety of skills and experiences
  • You have an understanding of building needs and operations, preferably in NYC
  • You have proficiency in Google Suite and bookkeeping applications (or similar software and can learn other software systems)
  • You have an understanding of Jewish holidays, traditions, and customs to support the overall success of the synagogue’s functions and needs
  • You have experience with financial accounting and management
  • You have experience with project management and administrative skills
  • You are able to manage various tasks simultaneously
  • You enjoy working as part of a team

 

Compensation: $95,000-$105,000

3 weeks vacation plus various holiday closings.
