The Leffell School is a cutting-edge K-12 Jewish independent school serving more than 820 students on two campuses in Westchester County, 30 minutes north of New York City, that emphasizes academic excellence, traditional Jewish learning and values, and a strong sense of community.


 
The Student Life Director reports to the Associate Head of School for Jewish Life and Learning and works closely with the Principal as well as the grade level deans to plan and implement all aspects of informal and experiential programming in the high school. This individual is tasked with nurturing student life within the school, with particular emphasis on Shabbatonim, trips, y’mei iyun, student government, and our Tikkun Olam program, as well as coordination of holiday programming, day trips and special assemblies.
  
Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Planning and implementation of Tikkun Olam projects and coordination of all aspects of the Community Service Program
  • Planning, coordinating and staffing high school wide and grade level shabbatonim
  • Planning grade level trips for the 9th, 10th, and 11th grades in conjunction with the grade level deans, which currently include a 9th grade outdoor adventure tiyul, a 10th grade chesed-based tiyul, and an 11th grade ‘colleges through a Jewish lens’ tiyul
  • Coordinating holiday programming with the faculty and deans
  • Participation in Grade Level and Small Group Tefilah
  • Participation in the advisory program
  • Planning and conducting leadership training workshops for students

 

Additional Responsibilities Include:

  • Collaborate with Middle School Director of Experiential Education on Upper School –Wide programming
  • Coordinating special events such as class field trips, a high school dance, and Prom
  • Coordinating in-school programs including y’mei iyun together with High School faculty and outside guests
  • Oversight of student clubs and organizations
  • Oversight of, and serving as faculty advisor to, Student Government

 

Qualifications & Skills:

We are looking for a candidate who is excited about helping to build community and oversee student life within our school, and wo is prepared for the challenges of developing experiential programming within a formal context.  A well suited candidate will have experience in planning and implementing programming for high school students, as well as strong organizational and interpersonal skills.  This person should possess leadership skills and be able to work both independently and as part of a team.  A background in Jewish camping or youth group experience will be extremely helpful. A Master’s degree in education or a related field is a plus.
