The JCRC/AJC, Jewish Community Relations Council/American Jewish Committee of Detroit, is an independent non-partisan not-for-profit organization.  As an agency of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, we act as a voice to express the values of the Jewish community to the broader metro Detroit community, local and national political leaders as well as the international diplomatic community based in Detroit. We work in partnership with faith and community organizations to implement annual policy priorities.  In addition, we act as the regional office of the American Jewish Committee, the world’s premiere Jewish advocacy organization to advocate for important Jewish issues, including supporting the State of Israel and fighting antisemitism.


Overview of the position:

Full time position advocating for Israel and standing up to antisemitism across Michigan’s political, interfaith and intercommunal landscape with a focus on working with high schoolers, college students and young adults – 20s to 30s –  in developing leadership skills and engagement with the community.



Monitor the media for what is fair criticism of Israel vs. what is antisemitism/Israel obsessionism, working under our Director of Media Relations

Coordinate with our staff’s efforts on social media to present a pro-Israel message and to counter the anti-Israel voices.


Working with young adults on the following initiatives:

  • Muslim-Jewish and Black-Jewish fellowships on college campuses
  • Student-to-Student high school program
  • JBLUE high school program for Jewish and African America students
  • LFT (Leaders for Tomorrow program) or a similar high school program
  • ACCESS – young professional programming, especially surrounding Israel and antisemitism
  • College campus support
  • Other programs with high school and college students


Within JCRC/AJC, the Israel and Young Leadership Associate will be supervised by the Executive Director of the JCRC/AJC and will work with:

  1. Assistant Director/ Director of Media Relations who supervises our government relations and media relations and staffs our Israel Committee focusing on Israel educational programming.
  2. Community Associate who supervises Black-Jewish relations
  3. Advocacy Associate who advocates for domestic and international issues of concern to the Detroit Jewish community (beyond Israel and antisemitism)
  4. Executive Assistant/Special Projects Coordinator who staffs our diplomatic committee


At a minimum a college degree and evidence of pro-Israel activism at the University level. 

Preferably an advanced degree in Political Science, International Relations and/or communications. 

Strong understanding of the media, media bias, and current events in Israel.

Strong written and verbal skills.

Ability to work as a team player or independently.

Ability to multitask and prioritize.

Ability to understand and work on multiple social media platforms.

Evidence of pro-Israel activism at the university level. 

Strong understanding of the media and current events in Israel.

Good social skills – likes working with people of all ages – especially younger adults

Ability to work as a team player or independently – initiative!

Ability to multitask and prioritize.

Ability to understand and work on multiple social media platforms.


$40,000 - $50,000 - Commensurate with experience.  Included are generous benefits, including an excellent health care plan, and paid time off.
