Description

Preferred Start Date: Summer 2024

Since our founding in 1825, B’nai Jeshurun (BJ) has been at the forefront of the American Jewish experience. As we approach our third century, our vision is focused on the spiritual work of transformation and on the creation of a Jewish spiritual path that is authentic and profound, and helps each member seek and live their purpose to the fullest.

Our spiritual leaders and almost 1,900 member families share a vision of a diverse, dynamic, and welcoming community that offers many paths to Jewish religious life, while supporting one another in their spiritual quests. We are committed to honoring tradition while re-imagining and innovating our practices and programs to create a vibrant, contemporary, and relevant Jewish life for all who seek it.

We are excited to add an Elementary School Coordinator (ESC) to the Family Life and Learning (FLAL) team, to plan and execute programming directed at students in Kindergarten through 6th grade and their families. The ESC will report to the Director of Family Life and Learning.

Our ideal candidate will have a passion for engaging children in fun, meaningful Jewish life; strong project management skills; and the ability to flex between audiences. This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their career in Jewish education, and who is excited to grow their skills and network in the worlds of Jewish and experiential education.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate all non-Kadima programs for school-aged children, with a particular focus on students in grades K-6, including: scheduling, recruitment, set up, supplies, program plan and communication with participants
  • Partner with Director to create supplemental and educational resources for holidays and programs as appropriate (High Holy Days, Shabbat, Hanukkah etc.)
  • Create meaningful relationships with our youth and families and actively recruit and retain youth for all programming
  • Serve as educator and staff presence at Shabbat events (Tot Shabbat, Shabbat Model, Reach for Shabbat retreat, etc.)
  • Serve as “Youth Advisor,” creating and running special events and programs for school-aged children
  • Work with the communications department to manage various forms of communications and publicity, including social media, phone recruitment, regular email communication with families, update print materials, advertising, and the BJ website
  • Provide presence and programmatic support for FLAL programs outside of Shabbat (Teach at Kadima, BJ Theater Company, holiday programs etc.)
  • Build and maintain relationships with external organizations, with a particular focus on engaging families whose children attend Jewish day schools, and deepen relationships with Jewish camps
  • Other duties may be assigned by the Director of Family Life and Learning

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • 1-3 years experience in education or youth engagement, ideally in a Jewish setting (experience as a camp counselor, Hebrew school teacher or BMitzvah tutor are all great)
  • Experience working in an office setting (as staff or volunteer)
  • Highly organized, creative, and detail-oriented
  • Passionate about Jewish living and learning, bringing a fun, creative, and enthusiastic approach.

Schedule

The Elementary School Coordinator position is a hybrid, exempt position. In-office requirements vary based on the season and workflow. Typically, the Elementary School Coordinator should expect to be in the building on Tuesdays when Kadima is in session, Wednesday or Thursday depending on meeting schedules, and on Shabbat when there are FLAL programs.  The ESC will often have to work non-traditional hours, and there is flexibility in ensuring that FLAL staff can recuperate when they work outside of traditional working hours.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time exempt position, with a starting salary between $55,000-60,000 for those who meet the job requirements. BJ offers medical, dental, and vision insurance policies, as well as vacation and sick days, over 20 paid (national and Jewish) holidays, a 403(b) retirement plan, and many other benefits.
