Description

Congregation of Reform Judaism is seeking a fun, passionate, creative, and thoughtful Youth Director to join the CRJ team! The ideal candidate will be creative, relatable, organized, and a dedicated mentor and partner.

Overall Responsibilities

  • Serve as an adult role model for youth ages 1-18.
  • Provide opportunities that are instilled with Jewish values and pride for all CRJ youth to create lifelong friendships and build community with one another.
  • Participate in Temple-wide events involving youth and their families.
  • Collaborate with Director of JEEP (CRJ’s Religious School) to ensure that there is a solid link between JEEP, Youth Groups, and YALA (CRJ’s Youth Program for 7th-12th Graders).
  • Train and supervise staff and lay leaders for all youth programs.
  • Order food for youth events that provide food.

Qualifications

  • Past leadership in informal or formal Jewish education experiences, focused on youth and high school.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and lead engaging programs for youth and high school students.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage part-time staff.
  • The understanding of and ability to work within a departmental budget.
  • To be a Team Player and have the capability to work collaboratively with clergy and other staff members to achieve goals.
  • To have a sense of entrepreneurialism to experiment and develop new models for youth programming and engagement.
  • To utilize approved social media, to create e-blasts, and to employ other modes of communication in partnership with the Marketing Department.
  • The ability to lead dynamic and meaningful services for youth and high school students in collaboration with clergy and educational team (desired, but not required).
  • 2-4 years work experience
  • Experience with youth and teens is preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills 
    • Exceptional ability to communicate and build relationships with all youth.
    • Exceptional ability to communicate effectively with parents and colleagues.
    • Excellent project management, program planning, execution, and administrative skills.

Kids Kehillah (Programming for infants through children four years of age)

  • Coordinate and plan monthly Tot Shabbat Services, which typically involve music done by the Cantor, a story or puppet show by the Rabbi, and an activity led by the Youth Director. Tot Shabbat is for the whole family!
  • Implement other programming for this age group.

Youth Groups (Social Programming for Pre-K through 6th Graders)

  • Organize programs that serve Pre-K through 6th
  • Create a bridge between JEEP and Youth Groups.
  1. GORFTY, GORFTY, and YALA (Social and Educational Programming for 7th through 12th Graders)
  • Plan and execute a weekly hands-on learning program during the school year.
  • Empower adolescents and teens to be leaders at CRJ by:
    • Helping them run programs during YALA
    • Encouraging them to be madrichim (teachers assistants) at JEEP once they have had their Bar/Bat Mitzvah.
  • Create a post B’nai Mitzvah culture, where YALA is the unquestionable next step in their Jewish educational and spiritual journey.
  • Empower teens to be leaders in the Orlando Jewish community and beyond, which may involve looking into attending city-wide, state-wide, or national programs of interest.

Communication

  • Point of contact for all CRJ youth and their families.
  • Manage communication efforts, in conjunction with Programming/Marketing dept, to families of all ages and touch points. Including, but not limited to, weekly eblasts, monthly updates, photo managements, social media, texts, etc.
  • Be willing to communicate with teens on their desired platform.

Other

  • Attend weekly senior staff meetings.
  • Provide a positive, warm environment for all CRJ youth and their families.
  • Perform other job-related responsibilities as necessary as determined in conjunction with CRJ senior staff
