Role Overview

As a key member of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) Illini Hillel’s professional team, you’ll manage our annual campaign, lead our Centennial Campaign kicking off in 2022, coordinate donor and alumni events, research and manage grant applications, communicate Hillel's vision and story to key constituencies, and help Illini Hillel sustain and grow the financial resources necessary to advance our work. You can work from JUF’s Chicago office (hybrid) or from the Illini Hillel office in Urbana-Champaign.

What You’ll Do:

  • Partner with the Executive Director, Assistant Director, and lay leadership to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of current and future donors. 
  • Build and nurture strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders including alumni, parents, community, and university partners.
  • Oversee donor stewardship, including prospect research and gift acknowledgements.
  • Manage Illini Hillel’s Centennial Campaign through committee work, donor prospecting and engagement, event planning, and marketing communications, in partnership with Executive Director
  • Assist in the design and implementation of the annual development plan.
  • Plan periodic fundraising and stewardship events, including centennial campaign events for high-level donors, parent parlor meetings, and alumni gatherings to share Hillel’s mission and impact with groups of stakeholders.
  • Plan and execute printed, email, and social media campaigns and appeals for Hillel’s annual and Centennial campaigns.
  • Design and implement major community programs, including holiday and Shabbat celebrations, interfacing with students, community partners, stakeholders.
  • Partner with Hillel’s Board of Directors and Development Committee toward the achievement of all fundraising goals.

On a day-to-day basis you will:

  • Administer the development database and ensure data entry and gift processing is precise and timely. Includes research, input, segmentation, reporting, and maintenance.
  • Manage the Centennial Campaign committees, communication, and stakeholders to keep campaign rollout, communications, and events on track.
  • Engage in outreach to Illini Hillel alumni and parents.           
  • Conduct prospect research and identify major gift donors.
  • Prepare grant proposals and reports for individual donors, philanthropic foundations, other funders, and the board.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with Hillel International and JUF staff to coordinate Illini Hillel’s needs.
  • Work with Hillel staff and student leaders on sponsorship opportunities and fundraising initiatives, including recruiting, training, and mobilizing students to partner in Hillel’s development efforts.
  • Write and produce donor materials and briefings, PowerPoint presentations, reports, and prepare donor correspondence.
  • Assist in planning and assembling materials for Board meetings.

What you will bring to the job:

  • 5-7 years of experience in development, fundraising, or related focus.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher; advanced degree is preferred.
  • Passion for Hillel’s mission, pluralistic Jewish life, and the college experience; an understanding of Hillel and Federation worlds.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, specifically directed at large groups of supporters.
  • Proven ability to create annual development plans and multi-channel communication plans.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experience working in with databases (we use Little Green Light and Salesforce).
  • Event planning experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrated high level of professionalism, attention to detail, creative thinking, problem-solving, time management, multi-tasking, organizational skills, and ability to work independently and meet deadlines while completing projects with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Pride in the accuracy and presentation of your work.
