In 2023 Hillel International will celebrate its 100th anniversary. With this milestone around the corner, we recognize the greatest impact we deliver is through the talented professionals that lead our work on campus. During the past 7 years, Hillel International has made transformational investments in its Talent strategy. Hillel’s Springboard Fellowship is a cornerstone of this Talent strategy.  Launched in 2016 and now recruiting for our Zayin (7th) cohort, the Springboard Fellowship is the Jewish Professional world’s premier early career development and impact opportunity, combining deep training in human-centered design with unique Jewish education and experiences and the learning and support of a dynamic cohort program. 

At this important moment for Hillel, we are excited to be hiring our next Executive Director of Springboard. The Executive Director will continue to strengthen and scale the existing Springboard Fellowship to an annual scale of 100 Fellows and beyond, while architecting and implementing a broader “Springboard Platform”. This new Springboard Platform will take the powerful DNA of the Springboard Fellowship and extend it through (1) a new pre-career Springboard Intern program offered through campus Hillels for future Jewish leaders, (2) new Springboard-based professional development opportunities that will ultimately be available to all early career Hillel professionals and (3) new alumni experiences for the growing cadre of former Springboard Fellows who are increasingly impacting the broader Jewish professional landscape. 

Are you a transformational leader who is excited to lead and build on the most innovative fellowship program in Jewish life for recent college graduates? Do you have the ambition and skills to transform the Jewish future through the unique program and platform that Springboard represents?  

In this role, you’ll develop cohorts of talented young professionals and equip them with the most in-demand professional skills, including Human-Centered Design and experiential education, hold the Jewish Educational vision and combine these with Hillel’s proven models for achieving excellence.  You’ll continue to strengthen the fellowship, attracting 50+ fellows per year, having a significant impact on Jewish student engagement across North America, and sustaining long-term connections with fellow alumni that strengthen leadership throughout the Jewish nonprofit sector.

As the leader of this critical innovation cohort within the Hillel movement, you’ll also partner with the other programs and interventions stimulating innovation and experimentation across the Hillel field, including the IACT program and the Organizational Design Lab. You’ll have a unique role requiring vision and strategy, passion and creativity, partnership and collaboration skills, risk-taking and measurement, education and mentoring, and an ability to execute quickly and seamlessly within our 100 year old start up!  

Reporting to the VP of Talent & Leadership Development, you will be a senior member of the team responsible for Talent Acquisition, Volunteer Leadership, and Onboarding & Professional Development. We’re a highly collaborative team, relying on the success of each individual to drive our own initiatives forward. This role sits at the critical intersection of recruiting, training, and developing early career talent and preparing the next generation of Jewish professionals and volunteer leadership.

  • Collaborate effectively with, engage, and learn from diverse people from young professionals to peers to philanthropic advisors
  • Connect with, care deeply about, respect, and mentor Early Career Gen Z professionals
  • Use leadership and management best practices to grow and develop individuals
  • Manage and engage a cross-functional team within Hillel International
  • Oversee Hillel field relationships with 100+ local Hillels and their stakeholders in relation to the Springboard Fellowship and the new Springboard offerings

What you'll own:

  • Enhance the stellar Springboard brand, ensure it continues to attract the best and brightest early career professionals and give them world-class training to set them on a course of career-long impact
  • Own the strategy and continual improvement of the core Springboard Fellowship that will grow the skills for the next generation of Hillel and Jewish community leaders
  • Architect and implement the exciting new extensions of the Springboard Platform, for pre-career future Jewish leaders, all early career Hillel professionals and Springboard alumni
  • Build and manage the Springboard team including 2 dedicated professionals, along with cross-functional team members, mentors, educators, and consultants in areas such as branding, educational design and development, recruiting, and evaluation
  • Oversee an ongoing robust evaluation process ensuring opportunities for growth and incorporating mechanisms for ongoing measurement and reporting
  • Partner with the Advancement team to raise the resources to match and scale the program implementation plan 
  • Revise and iterate on project structure and content and adjust based on feedback, metrics, needs of target population, and growth changes
  • Engage and manage Hillel field committees on key program changes and pilots 
  • Establish successful career counseling and alumni programs to ensure a robust and sustaining long-term Talent pipeline

What you’ll bring:

  • BA required, as is 10+ years of professional experience. Previous talent development experience is preferred, as is experience with working with lay leaders and/or other external stakeholders.    
  • Excellent written, editorial and verbal communication skills.
  • Independence, reliability and discretion when needed
  • Proven ability to cultivate strong relationships, collaborate, influence, and persuade.
  • Experience juggling multiple projects and priorities in a complex environment; comfort with ambiguity and flexibility to adapt to a changing team.
  • Experience in professional development and/or other adult learning program design, development and implementation.
  • Proven program management skills: Build plans and supervise people using clear objectives, milestones, and metrics.
  • Proven ability to assess the impact of initiatives around defined outcomes, and iterating based on data.
  • A passion for identifying and cultivating talent to enable professionals to reach their maximum potential while enhancing the organizations they serve.
  • Comfort rolling up sleeves to get things done and the next moment being part of deeply complex strategy discussions
  • Proven success with multi-tasking and working collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Operational and execution excellence.
  • Comfort with your identity, familiarity with the Jewish community,  and a pluralistic approach to Jewish life and engagement.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Office suite, Google for Work, video conferencing tools and social media.

Hiring Process & Timeline
Applications are due on Wednesday, January 26,  2022 by 5pm PT. 
Screening Interviews will begin Monday, January 24th for candidates that are not well known to us.
The formal interview process (1st & 2nd round interviews, committee interview, Behavioral Assessment (Predictive Index) and final approval(s)) will begin on Tuesday, February 1st and end by Friday, February 18th. Our intention is to have someone begin in a full time capacity by March 14, 2022.
