REFORM TEMPLE OF LAGUNA WOODS, a senior congregation in a gated, age-restricted neighborhood in Southern California, Orange County, is seeking a part-time Cantor/Cantorial soloist. Our 350+ congregants are all seniors and follow the tradition of Reform Judaism. Our dues are extremely low to meet the needs of retirement/limited incomes. We meet in a local Clubhouse; therefore, we have no building expenses. Nor do we have administrative staff. We are completely volunteer-operated. Our paid part-time staff includes our Rabbi, Choir Director, Sound technician, and Oneg set-up staff.
We seek a Cantor who will work collaboratively with the Rabbi and Choir Director to provide an inspirational, musical, inclusive atmosphere for our attendees. The Cantor will perform his/her duties on two Fridays of each month (and possibly more, TBD.) The Cantor will arrive 1.5 hours before Friday night service for practice with the Choir. Compensation will be per Shabbat service. The Cantor will also perform High Holy Day services, which include practicing with the choir. High Holy Day services include Erev Rosh Hashanah, First Day Rosh Hashanah, Kol Nidre, Yom Kippur. Additional appropriate Compensation will be applied for the High Holy Days.
In the event the Rabbi is unavailable to perform his duties on a Friday evening, the Cantor will be asked to lead services in his stead and shall be paid an additional sum for this service.
The Cantor shall be classified as an exempt employee under applicable California and federal law. The Cantor will be considered an employee for federal and state tax purposes and appropriate amounts will be withheld for payment of federal and state taxes.
RTLW welcomes applicants who are Ordained Cantors, Cantorial Soloists, and Cantorial students. Send resumes with references to: Marti Hack, President, [email protected]
