 Applicant Qualifications (required)

  • Identify as Jewish
  • Sing with a voice that is warm, pleasant, inspiring, and inviting
  • Possess proficient knowledge of Reform Jewish liturgy for Shabbat and holidays
  • Demonstrate an ability to lead music at Reform Jewish Shabbat, High Holidays, and other holiday worship services in a manner that both uplifts and includes the congregants
  • Enjoy a deep knowledge of both traditional and contemporary Jewish music
  • Connect with congregants, clergy, and staff to build rapport and develop warm relationships
  • Value and prioritize collaborative relationships with Clergy, staff, and lay leaders
  • Have effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Have proven implementation of creative and innovative music that attracts and engages current and prospective members

 Preference will be given to candidates with the following qualifications or experiences:

  • Experience leading music in a Reform Jewish congregational setting for Shabbat and Holiday worship services
  • Hebrew competency
  • Torah/Haftorah cantillation fluency
  • Skilled in playing the guitar
  • Creating variations of traditional music and/or compose music for services

 Essential Functions for part-time position:

  • Provide musical leadership for Shabbat services (Friday evenings, Saturday mornings, potential Saturday afternoons or evenings)
  • Provide musical leadership for B’nei Mitzvah services
  • Provide musical leadership for Jewish Holidays
  • Provide musical leadership at other worship services led by one or more of our Rabbis
  • Collaborate with our Rabbis to create and lead meaningful worship services
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings with our Rabbis and Executive Director
  • Work cooperatively and effectively with our Rabbis, temple staff, accompanists, sound engineers, and lay leaders to support the culture and values of the congregation

Potential Additional Functions to create a full-time position:
in addition to the Essential Functions for the part-time position

  • Tutor B’nei Mitzvah students
  • Coordinate the B’nei Mitzvah program including
    • introductory appointments
    • tutoring schedule
    • check-ins
    • communicate with the Rabbis on the needs of the students
    • record keeping
  • Provide musical leadership at Sunday religious school
  • Teach at Sunday religious school
  • Develop and coordinate musical programming for the congregation including, but not limited to, adult choir, children’s choir, Purim Shpiel, and concerts
  • Participate in various Jewish and general community events as a representative of Temple Emanu-El

COVID-19 considerations:
Staff members must be vaccinated for COVID-19. Staff and congregants over the age of 2 wear masks inside the building.

Compensation for part-time position is $50,000.00. Greater compensation for additional responsibilities or full-time position.
