About The Position

Our Director of Lifelong Learning and Programming cultivates relationships within the Temple Beth Am community to connect members to

  1. The synagogue and its various volunteer and program offerings
  2. Jewish meaning, learning, involvement and engagement
  3. The community by way of social action and communal response programming 

The Director of Lifelong Learning and Programming is supervised by Rabbi Schatz and works in partnership with a team of professionals to plan and execute programmatic opportunities

Temple Beth Am (TBA) is a leading conservative synagogue in the heart of the Pico-Robertson neighborhood. Home to Pressman Academy, an early childhood-8th grade day school and the Jewish Learning Community, our supplemental program with national reputation of excellence.

You are connected or comfortable finding connections to great Jewish presenters, educators, teachers and programs to further our Jewish learning

Job Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a staff team to serve the needs of the TBA community in areas of adult learning, social action and social justice, holiday programming, social and niche groups within the synagogue (such as 20/30s, film group, cooking group, OneLA, etc)
  • Organize and engage members of the community in meaningful ways
    • Work closely with lay leaders and volunteers - organizing them based on interests, skills and passions
    • Respond to requests/ideas for programs generated by community members
    • Envision, plan, and execute programs (both in-person and virtual), generated by the staff and clergy - inspiring volunteerism from members to help in the process and product
    • Keep records, track members’ participation - competency with Excel/Google Sheets
    • Publicize events, target specific demographics of the community to increase participation and maximize engagement 
  • Manage annual programming budget
  • Collaborate with other organizations for educational, holiday, special one-off programming, social action initiatives, etc
  • Team with the TBA clergy to plan adult learning opportunities weekly, monthly and seasonally
    • Adult education offerings also for Shabbat afternoon and community Shabbat dinners content
  • Envision, plan and implement what is currently an annual TBA travel mission to different domestic and international destinations of Jewish interest


Job Requirements

  • 3 or more years of experience in event planning, community organizing, Jewish communal service
  • Comfortable and confident in the Jewish calendar and Jewish education to help build programs 
  • An outgoing and energetic personality
  • An ability to build relationships with a range of different members of the TBA/Pressman community
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfort and creativity in using Social Media, Google Sheets/Excel, software for room assignments
  • An innovative self-starter who can establish priorities and adjust organizational activities as appropriate
  • Critical thinker who demonstrates sound judgment and decision-making skills
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours - evening and weekend commitments are common



$60-80k - Competitive salary commensurate with experience - plus benefits
