Lower School Assistant Library Media Specialist

The Lower School Assistant Library Media Specialist for the 2024-2025 school year. An Assistant Library Media Specialist is a member of the Instructional Technology team and reports directly to and is supervised and evaluated by the Director of Instructional Technology.  As a faculty member at CESJDS, the Assistant is expected to be a role model, promote professional practices, and embody the values and mission of the School within the context of a pluralistic Jewish community.

The primary duties and responsibilities of the Assistant Library Media Specialist include:

• Supervises student use of the library and assists classes and other groups who visit the media center with instructional use of library materials, both digital and print;

• Plans and delivers media center-based and pull-out instruction for students both as a lead teacher and in collaboration with classroom teachers. 

• Facilitates student and staff research, information fluency, and the ethical use of researched information;

• Helps to oversee the circulation of materials, including cataloging, maintenance of the Destiny library system, and the tracking and recovery of overdue items;

• Manages the STEM Tinkerspace and the STEM Tinkerspace Lending Library, including suggesting purchases for the space and working to promote use of the space by students both during class and non-class times.

• Promotes reading among Lower School students; 

• Participates in the planning and implementation of library programming and exhibits;

• Helps to maintain library resources, both print and digital, as well as media equipment and online databases. This includes cataloging and processing new books in accordance with Lower School Media Center practices and repairing damaged books; 

• Provides input on short and long-range plans for keeping the collection, both print and digital, current;

• As part of the instructional technology staff, provides technology support for students and faculty;  

• Acts for the Library Media Specialist during his/her absence;

• This position includes 8 hours per week (.2) of lead teaching or instructional support with prep time for those duties outside the Media Center.
