Temple Solel Director of Youth Education
Temple Solel is an exciting and robust community - a Reform Jewish synagogue in gorgeous North County coastal San Diego that is thriving and blossoming even during the vicissitudes of the pandemic. Our Director of Youth Education will create, dream, and execute on our entire K-12 education program. During the pandemic, we reimagined our Religious School to be a completely outdoors Camp Kef B’Yachad for K-6th Grade; this may or may not be the same structure moving forward. Our 7th-12th Grade Teen Journey program is taught by our clergy and leadership team, and includes weekly class sessions and yearly travel offerings. This position considers non-negotiable the inspiring, creative, and loving approach to stewardship of people, budget, curriculum, and educational and spiritual offerings in an inclusive community.
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
Leadership of Religious School operations, including family recruitment, engagement, and registration; budget, ordering textbooks, materials, and supplies; progress updates to families; coordinating programs/events/activities with synagogue; security/emergency planning, and more.
Setting and executing a cohesive and compelling vision of spiritual and intellectual journey for youth and families in collaboration with clergy, educators, and board
Developing best practices in the realms of hiring, training, coaching, supervision, and motivation of teachers, teen assistants, tutors and school administrative staff and volunteers
Initiating exciting and interesting teacher enrichments for classroom dynamism, shared ideas, and ongoing iterations of increased wonder and beauty in the educational space at Temple Solel
Being an engaged and warm presence at all Religious School and Youth Engagements -- and also an integrated member of our leadership team
Implementing an energized approach to creating both multi-generational and age appropriate observances of holidays and special occasions, adjunct to and integrated with regular class sessions
Communicating clearly and joyously with family and youth in our community - utilizing our current modes of communication (newsletters, emails to families, and social media) as well as innovations you create to be truly connected to the community
Proficient technical skills including documents, spreadsheets and database programs for enrollment of school and camp programs and for the maintenance of student records
Capably utilizing ShulCloud database (we can train you) for enrollment of school and camp programs and for the maintenance of student records
Organizing financial management, including budget planning, analysis, and reporting
B.A./B.S. or higher degree in Education and/or Judaic Studies
High-level experience in educational leadership and administration, including budget and human resource management
Experience in Jewish educational leadership, including teaching and curricular development, as well as supervision of faculty
Knowledge of Hebrew language decoding and basic comprehension
Understanding and appreciation of Progressive/Reform Judaism
This position requires all of the typical knowledge and skills and experience for such a role in a synagogue.
