Chief Development Officer

Hillels of Georgia

Role Overview

The Chief Development Officer is responsible for the planning and execution of a multi-pronged fund development program that includes annual fund giving, major gifts, institutional gifts, special events, endowment giving and capital/combined campaigns to meet the annual fundraising goal of approximately $2.7M for Hillels of Georgia and capital campaign goals as the needs of the organization arise for expansion and growth. The Chief Development Officer will report to the CEO and oversee and conduct personal solicitations of Board members; community donors; parents; alumni; staff and students, supported by the CEO, staff, volunteers and board members.

What You’ll Do

  • Create and implement a robust fund development strategy for Hillel's of Georgia and the individual campuses.
  • Work with volunteer leadership, CEO and campus staff to develop both a donor and leadership pipeline to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward a portfolio of current and prospective major donors ($5,000+) both locally and nationally.
  • Manage Annual Fund including direct mail; telemarketing; social media and other appeals directed to Hillels of Georgia parents, alumni and community friends; and student phone-a-thons.
  • Develop and manage Parent Support Councils for each campus.
  • Develop and manage Alumni Support Councils for each campus.
  • Manage special events including Annual Hillel Heroes Gala.
  • Perform prospect research, solicitation and stewardship for major donors and prospects.
  • Administer the development database and ensure data entry; gift processing and gift acknowledgements are timely, accurate and complete.
  • Prepare grant proposals and reports for individual donors, philanthropic foundations, other funders and the board.
  • Develop all marketing materials for development efforts, collaborating with the Development & Marketing Manager
  • Work in collaboration with campus staff for Student Hineni Annual Fund Campaigns and Senior Class Gift programs on each campus.
  • Build partnerships with campus administration and the campus development office, Hillel’s International Centers, and foundations.
  • Develop, foster and promote a culture of philanthropy throughout Hillels of Georgia.

What You’ve Accomplished:

  • 5+ years of progressive fundraising and development experience in higher education and/or the Jewish community.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, networking and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding donors, especially those above $1,000
  • Experience and expertise in annual fundraising campaigns, personal solicitation, telemarketing, direct mail, social media appeals.
  • Building, maintaining and growing relationships with prospects, donors and leadership.
  • Management of donor or customer relation databases
  • Bachelor’s degree required; CFRE a plus.
