North Shore Congregation Israel (NSCI), a reform synagogue located on the shores of Lake Michigan, is one of Chicago’s largest and most vibrant congregations. Even with 100 years of history, NSCI maintains a forward-thinking approach to Jewish life and engagement. NSCI’s congregants have made deep personal and financial investments in their Jewish life and community. In turn, NSCI makes a similar investment in its congregants by approaching their engagement with thoughtfulness and care. The Marketing and Communications Coordinator will be key to the fulfillment of this responsibility.

We are seeking an experienced Marketing and Communications Coordinator to help us achieve our engagement goals. You will work with teams from across NSCI and with our external partners to help communicate and deliver great experiences for current and prospective congregants as well as other community stakeholders. Part project manager and traffic controller, part creative and technical expert, this position plays a key role in bridging the gap between all NSCI departments and program areas. Key responsibilities include:


  • Maintain awareness of emerging digital engagement trends and determine best use of media to engage with stakeholders.
  • Devise and implement strategies to drive event registration and traffic to the website and other digital platforms. Create actionable digital content, including some photo and video editing, for all distribution channels. Manage internal communications calendar.
  • Improve website usability and design to ensure it meets the needs of the synagogue. Work with outside agencies when required to further develop the website.
  • Ensure website functions integrate seamlessly into the synagogue’s CRM system.
  • Support staff and congregants in their navigation and utilization of CRM system.
  • Ensure all online content is reviewed, current, attractive, accurate, and adheres to brand guidelines. Work with staff to develop content and provide copy as necessary.
  • Maintain website calendar; ensure all public-facing programs are listed correctly.
  • Develop registration forms when appropriate.
  • Handle questions or problems relating to digital platforms from people with varying degrees of computer literacy. Support staff in their use of digital tools, including social media, to communicate with their audience.
  • Manage digital engagement via Google analytics and other tools, and utilize data to inform our engagement and marketing strategies.
  • Respond to social media posts and feed comments back to relevant departments.
  • Maintain NSCI’s social media policy. Ensure privacy policy and accessibility compliance within digital channels.


  • Oversee the design and production of targeted content including bulletins, flyers, programs, e-blasts, High Holy Day guides, and other promotional materials.
  • Work with outside design agencies on certain projects, providing copy, direction, and approval as necessary.
  • Review internal and external communications to ensure content and messaging are appropriate and effective.


  • Work with staff to ensure that content is aligned with NSCI’s brand guidelines.
  • Work with partner organizations to ensure that communication around collaborative programming adheres to NSCI’s brand guidelines.


  • Be present and support key engagement functions throughout the year as determined by the Executive Director.
  • Support overall NSCI administration as a member of the front office team, answering phones or in-person questions from congregants as needed.

 Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Enthusiasm for the vision and mission of NSCI ( and the role of synagogues in Jewish life.
  • 3+ years of prior marketing and communications experience. Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Ability to “roll up your sleeves” and execute multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating across multiple internal teams and departments and ability to build consensus.
  • Attention to detail with very high quality standards and principles when it comes to brand integrity.
  • Skilled in visual design. Experience with Canva or design software. Video a plus.
  • Experience working on websites (CMS based), intranets or other media to ensure quality, user-friendly, dynamic content.
  • Experience with Google Analytics, website accessibility/user experience and SEO.
  • Experience with Google Drive and familiarity with CRM systems.
  • Ability to maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, volunteers, other organizations and industry contacts.
