Purpose: The Glacier Jewish Community, an independent, egalitarian synagogue-without-walls serving the Flathead Valley in northwest Montana, seeks to hire a part-time Program & Communications Director to serve the administrative and community-building needs of our growing, innovative and joyful congregation. The main focus of this position is to provide administrative support for events, religious services, holidays, and various gatherings. A second key component of the job is serving as the communications hub for the congregation, Rabbi, and Steering Committee (Board of Directors). The ideal candidate possesses excellent writing and communication skills, is highly organized and adept with data entry and event planning. This position is best suited for someone who thrives with a flexible environment, enjoys information organization, and has fun with event planning. A familiarity with the Jewish calendar and synagogue life is desired but not required (the essentials can be learned). Position is open immediately. Open to remote work with minimal in-person. Prefer local and open to discussing expanding position to merit a relocation if you are the right match for the congregation.

Hours: This is a part-time position requiring 6-10 hours per week depending on the event schedule. During the Fall holidays (Rosh Hashanah & Yom Kippur) and the Spring holiday of Passover, hours might be higher and the congregation will require time-sensitive support.

Salary: $18.00/hour or DOE

Reports to: Rabbi/Spiritual Director. This position is a work-from-home position with onsite event attendance often required. The GJC will provide office supplies, equipment and/or reimbursements. 

Core Responsibilities:This position works in coordination with the Rabbi, Steering Committee and volunteers and serves as the administrative and communications support for the congregation.

  • Program and Event Coordination: Spearhead logistical coordination of all GJC services, events, and holiday celebrations. Working with the Rabbi and  event chairpeople to promote attendance and engage volunteers.
  • Communications: Manage congregational communications such as weekly email newsletters, event registrations, holiday card mailings (2-3 times a year), congregation calendar, and website
  • Membership Engagement: Support greater member involvement, manage member databases, and engage prospective and new members.

Experience and Qualifications: 

  • Administrative experience; detail-oriented with good organizational skills and self-motivated to work independently. 
  • Experience in project and event organizing from origination to completion, working collaboratively. Do you love a good potluck? Hope so! 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, preferred experience with Constant Contact, CRM/database, Gmail and Google Suite. 
  • Experience with outreach and promotions to provide meaningful connection and participation. 
  • Experience with the non-profit sector is a plus.
  • Familiarity and/or knowledge of Jewish life and calendar, and community faith-based organization is also a plus.
  • High school diploma or equivalency.
