Manager of Development and Membership Engagement

 

Har Sinai-Oheb Shalom Congregation is a unique Jewish congregation at an incredibly exciting moment, having been formed just a few years ago. We are born of the successful merger of two historic flagship Reform Congregations making us simultaneously the newest and oldest continuously Reform Congregation in North America. First and foremost, we strive for excellence in everything we do in the present and are constantly engaged in blue sky design thinking about our future.

We are seeking a dynamic development professional who values relationship-based fundraising.  The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Rabbi, Cantor, Executive Director, Development Committee, and Board of Trustees to design and implement a comprehensive and sustainable development plan.  Additionally, this position will manage new member recruitment and ongoing engagement.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience working with volunteers, an understanding and familiarity with the Baltimore Jewish community, and is team oriented.  High energy, poise, and positivity are crucial to the success of this position.  We are looking for a  candidate who is detail-oriented, flexible, has excellent communication skills, and is eager and open to continuous learning.

 

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Design and manage a comprehensive development plan that includes short-term and long-term goals.
  • Coordinate with Senior Rabbi, Development Committee, and Executive Director to maximize opportunities with current and prospective donors.
  • Develop appropriate systems, processes, policies, and procedures that govern all aspects of the development program.
  • Ensure donor stewardship cultivates deeper ties with donors and recognition is appropriate for all constituent groups.
  • Lead annual appeal and special campaigns.
  • Staff the Development Committee.
  • Participate in meetings to coordinate efforts and facilitate communication within and between departmental teams.
  • Manage member recruitment and onboarding.
  • Develop strategies for membership engagement and retention.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Two – Five years of nonprofit fundraising experience, preferably in Jewish communal work.
  • Demonstrated understanding of fundraising strategies for nonprofit and/or congregational organizations.
  • Interest, enthusiasm, and affinity for fundraising.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent multi-tasking skills and attention to detail; capable of following through on every task regardless of scope.
  • Must be flexible and possess strong organizational skills and the ability to juggle multiple projects.
  • Comfort with membership and fundraising databases.
