Hillel Davis and Sacramento

Role Overview

The Assistant Director (AD) is the Executive Director’s (ED) thought partner in developing and implementing the overall vision and strategy of the organization and helping to lead Hillel at Davis and Sacramento through a period of vibrant growth. The AD is responsible for overseeing the depth and breadth of student life related to programming, engagement, and student leadership and for supporting the work of the programming staff and student leaders on small to large scale programs and initiatives. The AD will strive to cultivate an inspiring work environment, while ensuring that staff members have what they need to excel at their jobs.

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate with ED to craft, implement, and review Hillel’s programmatic vision and engagement strategy.
  • Supervise, guide, and support the Program Director (PD), Israel Fellow (IF), and the Springboard Fellow (SF).
  • Advise Hillel’s Student Board through the delivery of intentional skills-based and informal training, facilitating leadership retreats, and leading conversations around goal setting and feedback.
  • Develop and manage the Hillel’s robust internship program.
  • Guide and support Jewish student clubs affiliated with Hillel. 
  • Work with PD, IF, and SF to manage internal system for collecting and reporting on student data to produce measurable outcomes. 
  • Serve as project manager for Hillel International’s Measuring Excellence Program.
  • Update monthly event log for Hillel Board Meetings and track attendance at events.
  • Work with the ED and (Development Manager) DM to secure grants, create and tell impact stories for digital engagement for various audiences (student, alumni, parents, larger community).
  • Staff and support Birthright Israel including pre and post trip orientation and reunion programs.

On a day to day basis you will

  • Facilitate weekly program staff meetings and plan staff retreats in collaboration with the ED.
  • Manage staff hiring process and onboarding/training of new program staff.
  • Maintain current job descriptions and organizational chart and review with CEO /all staff on an annual basis.
  • Manage and Maintain our Data Driven engagement tools and practices to maximize impact and ensure thoughtful meaningful relationship building.
  • Work with the Operations Director (OD) to monitor expense side of the organizational budget and work with staff and student leaders to develop programmatic budgets.
  • Oversee the Hillel’s websites and social media and digital engagement and communications channels to students and community.
  • Support the DM and ED in Hillel’s core fundraising activities, including donor relations, strategic fundraising conversations, special events and Development Committee efforts.
  • Assist and serve as a liaison to the university and greater Jewish community and our many institutional partners by representing Hillel at meetings and events.
  • Be present at key Hillel and university programs and use these programs as opportunities to build relationships with Jewish Students, community members, and university officials.
  • Coordinate ongoing Jewish learning initiatives that both develop community and strengthen Jewish identity. 
  • Actively infuse Jewish life, learning, and values into all programs and engagement opportunities.
  • Manage the everyday operations such as managing the staff calendar, creating a Shabbat schedule, managing the program calendar.

What You’ve Accomplished

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of relevant professional work experience.
  • Experience supervising professional staff and/or facilitating leadership development for young adults.
  • Comfort in managing teams as well as working independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to coach and advise others to achieve goals and outcomes.
  • Accomplished organizational skills related to strategic planning, program oversight, and time management.

What You’ll Receive

  • Competitive salary in the nonprofit marketplace. The salary range for this role is $65,000 to $75,000
