The Copy Editor/Writer is responsible for the editing and proofreading of a wide range of materials for UJA-Federation of New York, the world’s largest local philanthropy. The Copy Editor/Writer is both a meticulous and authoritative resource and arbiter of organizational brand and style, and a deft writer with a firm handle of UJA’s voice.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Copy edit and proofread all material for print and online – including e-mails, web pages, social media posts, publications, and more – produced by the Marketing & Communications department, as well as other departments as necessary.
  • Establish and enforce house style standards, including grammar, usage, and branding.
  • Maintain, monitor, and use research databases for fact-checking marketing statistics, population data, and all other relevant facts.
  • Enforce legal standards for usage.
  • Traffic and coordinate jobs with M&C staff and other departments as necessary.
  • Articulate style standards through wiki and other platforms.
  • Writing assignments, which may include email, social media, and speeches.

 Qualifications/Skills:

  • Five years or more of professional experience in editing, preferably marketing and other editorial material.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • First-class editing and proofing skills, with knowledge of The New York Times Manual of Style and Usage.
  • A deft writer and editor with a firm handle of UJA’s voice across multiple genres.
  • Ability to prioritize and juggle multiple projects and clients with a light-hand and professional manner.
  • Strong computer literacy on both Mac and PC platforms and ability to adjust easily to changes in technology.
  • Consistent and intense attention to detail (e.g., checking all the link on every email).
  • Ability to work with great accuracy under deadline pressure.
  • Superior wiring and research skills.
  • Ability to spot a broad range of errors, including spelling, grammar, usage, logic, design, and layout.

Salary Information:

The salary range for this role is $72,000 to $75,000; commensurate with experience and qualifications listed above.

TIME OFF

We offer a generous number of vacation days and have the Jewish holidays off as well. Fridays our offices close early (October to March at 3:00 pm and April to September at 4:00 pm). All so you can relax and recharge.
