Role Overview

Make your mark on Jewish student life by joining CU Boulder Hillel as the IACT Coordinator for Israel Engagement. You will recruit students for Birthright Israel trips by building one on one relationships with them, staff trips to Israel, and help connect students to opportunities that meet their interests upon their return to campus. As a community builder, you’ll inspire students to be partners in creating a vibrant and welcoming Jewish community on campus, deepening their connection to Israel. You will drive Hillel forward by thinking big and implementing with excellence on a day to day basis. The ideal candidate will feel energized by working with college students and be skillful in motivating, supporting and inspiring them to create meaningful Jewish experiences for themselves and their peers. The IACT Coordinator for Israel Engagement will report directly to the Assistant Director and will work as a trusted team member with all other CU Boulder Hillel staff.

The core of your role is to excite and encourage students to go on a Birthright Israel trip by engaging students through innovative recruitment strategies and authentic relationship-building. This includes building and cultivating relationships with students, creating engaging events, developing brand-centric marketing materials, supervising a team of student interns and managing an expansive program budget. The IACT Coordinator for Israel Engagement is also responsible for pre and post-trip student experiences, creating a complete and holistic experience that connects them more deeply. The IACT Coordinator for Israel Engagement must be capable of working both independently and as part of a team and have the ability to prioritize and handle multiple assignments. You will also be comfortable working in a flexible “start-up” Hillel environment, with a positive attitude and eagerness to try new ideas. This is so much more than your average 9-to-5 job.

What You’ll Do

• Develop one-on-one relationships with Jewish students by meeting them where they live, work and/or study, utilizing creative methods to reach and connect them to Jewish life and Israel.
• Mentor student leaders in their Jewish growth through individual meetings and group trainings, in order to cultivate a Jewish community that is caring, diverse, welcoming and actively inclusive.
• Expand the number of Birthright Israel trip participants from CU Boulder Hillel through effective recruitment and marketing strategies. 
• Staff Birthright Israel trips each Winter and Summer Break.
• Serve as a concierge for Birthright Israel alumni - developing a personalized follow-up plan for each CU Boulder Hillel Birthright participant to deepen their connection to Jewish life, engaging them in continued activities in the areas of Israel education, community service/social justice, and Jewish life and learning.
• Collaborate with students and colleagues to plan programs focusing on Israel education and advocacy; implement a program planning and evaluation tool to best prepare for and measure the success of programs and initiatives.
• Advise one or more Israel student groups under the Hillel umbrella with an eye for leadership development and innovation in their programming.
• Supervise student recruitment interns who will support Birthright recruitment and related administrative tasks.

A typical day might include

• Having coffee/tea with a new student who has expressed interest in becoming more involved with Israel on campus or wants to go on Birthright.
• Working on a plan for what marketing will look like for an upcoming Birthright event at Hillel.
• Meeting with University officials in Student Life or Housing on opportunities for partnerships.
• Meeting with cultural organizations and Greek life students to discuss co-sponsoring an upcoming event on campus.
• Meeting with a group of students who participated on a Birthright Israel trip last year to discuss plans for the upcoming joint Shabbat dinner they’re hosting for their sorority and fraternity. 
• Working with the programming team to plan upcoming programs.
• Meeting with a myriad of Jewish student leaders on campus or at Hillel, whose organizations are supported by CU Boulder Hillel through funding and YOUR leadership, mentoring and guidance (Israel interns, BIPAC, Buffs for Israel, JNF, Masa/Onward, etc.).
• Attending sessions of a Jewish cooking series in the Hillel kitchen with Birthright alumni from the most recent trip you staffed
• Taking some time for personal Jewish learning or a class.
• Facilitating an evening discussion following a film, speaker, or program.

What You’ll Bring to the Job

• A Bachelor’s degree and 0-4 years of professional work experience.  Sales, recruitment, and/or marketing experience is a plus (through a job, campus organization, or as a volunteer), as is experience in Jewish education or as a volunteer or professional in a Jewish organization.
• Confidence initiating and running programs. 
• Ability to collaborate across teams both inside and outside of Hillel.
• Prior travel experience in Israel and an energy and enthusiasm for Israel engagement, programming, and travel.
• An excitement and willingness to not slow down until you’ve reached your recruitment goals for each Birthright trip.
• A deep passion for building pluralistic Jewish communities and creating a welcoming, vibrant, and deeply enriching Jewish environment on campus.
• A team-oriented approach to work, a strong work ethic, a sense of humor, an ability to take risks and learn from mistakes as well as act as a role model for peers and student leaders.
• An entrepreneurial spirit - excelling in an environment that is more like a start-up incubator for new ideas and social entrepreneurship than a traditional Hillel. 
• Strong written and verbal skills, effective at communicating with a variety of stakeholders including students, parents, alumnae/i, and university partners.

What You’ll Receive

• Competitive salary in the nonprofit marketplace. The salary range for this role is $40,000 - $45,000
