Role Overview

The Director of Operations sits on our leadership team and is responsible for all things related to the operations of our building (eg., scheduling, keeping it clean, managing vendors, overseeing routine maintenance, and ensuring things get fixed). This role also hires and manages 15 part-time work-study student receptionists and supports some aspects of Talent/Human Resources and Finance for the organization. This is a role for a generalist who loves behind-the-scenes work that sets others up for success and makes sure things function at a high-level in service of their team and the larger community.

What You’ll Do

Student Employee Management

  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise staff of approximately 15 Tulane work-study student receptionists

Building Maintenance and Oversight

  • Ensure our building looks good, is functioning well, and secure

  • Manage relationships with Tulane and external vendor liaisons for building maintenance

  • Serve as liaison with Rimon, our in-house restaurant tenant

  • Manage our master schedule and calendar along with posting of public events on the website

  • Ensure building security through establishing protocols and interfacing with local security resources

  • Recruit Tulane professors and courses each semester for Tulane Hillel’s two multi-purpose classrooms

  • Support coordination of large scale events in the building (holidays, Homecoming, etc.) 

  • Market facility rental to outside groups as a source of potential revenue, particularly during summer months, and manage all aspects of rental activity

Organizational Leadership and Strategic Alignment

  • Sit on the Leadership Team and provide input and leadership on all aspects of the organization

  • Continually monitor and improve the overall building operations; evaluate and adopt process improvements to meet organizational needs

  • Establish and maintain procedures for staff to request materials, equipment, and building usage

  • Lead any technology related projects (eg. platform changes, acquiring new materials, etc.) and other day to day operational supports 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Director of Development on special projects as needed, which may include: gift processing and donor database maintenance; recruitment and coordination of student photographers, as well as maintaining online photo library; web design assistance; and assist with prospective student and family tours of the building.

What You’ve Accomplished

  • At least 2 years of professional work experience, with at least 1 year managing projects, event planning, and/or other operations-related tasks 

  • Experience in general operations and/or building management preferred 

  • Experience mentoring and/or formally managing others preferred 

  • Bachelor’s Degree

Your leadership experience and approach will set you up to have our student workers like you, respect you, and also listen to the expectations you’ve set for them.

Flexible and solutions-oriented - You approach challenges with the mindset of finding a solution and work hard to solve problems once they are identified. You like being in a role that is never done and there is always something popping up or ways to make things better. It wouldn’t bother you that you’ll likely be interrupted throughout the day with questions and requests that come up and will often be working on a variety of different tasks at once.

What You’ll Receive

  • Competitive salary in the non-profit marketplace. The salary range for this role is  $48,000 - $60,000 annually. Starting salary will be determined based on someone’s previous experience and equity amongst our team.

  • A comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, life  insurance, Long Term Disability (LTD), Flexible Spending Plan. Tulane Hillel covers 80% of individual employee health insurance premiums. 

  • After completing your second year in the role, Tulane Hillel automatically contributes 5% to your retirement plan.
