Peninsula Temple Beth El welcomes Jews and all people who seek faith and community. Our approximately 750 households include individuals and families of many generations and cultures. We promote the love of Torah from generation to generation by inspiring Jewish living through study, prayer, fellowship, and good deeds. We are a Reform Jewish congregation located in the heart of the San Francisco Peninsula, in San Mateo, California.
Job Purpose: This is a temporary position covering a leave of absence approximately December 2021-April 2022. The Youth Educator will resume the role in April.
We are currently seeking a creative, energetic, and fast paced professional who can easily implement formal and informal Jewish educational experiences for our 7th-12th graders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Direct Madrichim/Roshim Program (Teen Leaders and classroom aides, Various Program times primarily Sunday mornings and early afternoon Grades 8-12)
• Mentor Madrichim/Roshim in their work in religious school classrooms
• Track Madrichim/Roshim attendance and manage payroll
• Weekly communication with Madrichim/Roshim and parents when education programs are in session
• Liaison between teens and community

Lead Mitzvah Corp Program (Grade 7, Sunday afternoons 1x/per month)
• Execute 4 social action programs that are already planned
• Work with co-educator
• Communication with Mitzvah Corp participants and families

Lead Chaverim Program (Grade 8, Sunday afternoons 1x/per month)
• Execute 4 Jewish values program that are already planned
• Communication with Chaverim participants and families

Support Confirmation Program (Grades 10, Wednesday evenings 1x/per month)
• Provide administrative support to clergy
• Communication with Confirmation participants and families
• Attend Wednesday evening Pizza dinners from 6:00-6:40pm
• Coordinate with Event Coordinator to help organize shabbat dinners in confirmands home

Work with SMRTY (Grades 9-12, monthly, times vary)
• Supervise our SMRTY (Temple Youth Group) leadership to plan exciting, engaging events with monthly meetings
• Offer guidance, leadership training and support to our teen leaders.
• Publicize events and delegate to teens how they will lead recruitment

Support Bay Area Wide Retreat (Grades 9-12, March 25-27 2022)
• Work with community partners to plan engaging retreat for teens
• Recruit PTBE teens to attend event
• Attend retreat and hire additional staff as needed

Purim Carnival (All ages)
• Work with Director of Learning and Assistant Director of Youth Education to plan and coordinate logistics of this event.
• Responsible for coordination of teen and family volunteers to run stations and booths

• Create monthly Teen Blast using existing template that provides local and community opportunities to be involved in.
• Contribute to weekly Ed News communication for the programs this position is responsible for.
• Contribute meaningful teen opportunities to E-News that goes to the congregation as needed.

Education, Skills and Experience
• Positive attitude in a fast-paced collaborative Jewish community environment.
• Proven ability to provide transparent and high integrity leadership, collaboration, engagement with a broad diversity of youth, lay leaders, congregants, staff, and other stakeholders.
• Computer literacy and technical skills, such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Windows, social media platforms, database systems (Shul Cloud).
• Jewish community, camp or other organized youth engagement experience preferred.
• Demonstrated experience handling multiple duties and prioritizing successfully
• Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
Physical Requirements
• Possess a valid California driver’s license, ability to operate personal vehicle for business and willingness to drive for offsite meetings and appointments.
• Proof of COVID vaccination required.
Working Conditions and Travel
• Willingness to work at off-site camps and retreat locations (mileage reimbursed for outside travel)
• Ability to work evenings and weekends within a 40-hour work week/or equivalent compensated days off as needed.
Compensation: The salary range is $24-26 per hour depending on experience. There is flexibility between hours worked per week, approximately 30-40 hours
