Middle School Learning Specialist

The Middle School Learning Specialist supports students in grades 6–8 with diverse learning needs, focusing on targeted instruction in math, literacy, and executive functioning. The goal of this role is to help students build the skills, strategies, and confidence they need for academic and personal success. The Learning Specialist works closely with students to help them understand their learning profiles and develop personalized approaches that promote independence and self-advocacy. This work is done in collaboration with teachers, families, and student support teams to create consistent, strength-based learning experiences.

Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field (preferred).
  • Deep understanding of diverse teaching methodologies and evidence-based strategies for supporting students with learning differences.
  • Demonstrated expertise in implementing best practices for skill-based instruction in reading comprehension, written expression, and mathematics.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide academic support for 6–8 grade students with learning differences, both within the classroom and in small-group settings.
  • Deliver instructional support that aligns with each student’s learning plan.
  • Collaborate closely with classroom teachers, advisors, and support staff to ensure cohesive instructional strategies and accommodations.
  • Serve as the case manager for assigned students, overseeing the development, implementation, and regular updates of student service plans.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records in compliance with school policies 
  • Conduct consistent progress monitoring to assess student growth and adjust support strategies as needed.
  • Assist with data collection and documentation as part of the IEP (Individualized Education Program) process.
  • Act as a liaison between home and school.
  • Fulfill co-curricular responsibilities including lunch, recess, and other community duties
