Job Description
The Center for Jewish Studies seeks an energetic, creative, and project-oriented Communications Specialist to develop and manage integrated marketing plans, program publicity, strategies, tactics, communication platforms, initiatives, and digital content. Under the direction of the Director, the successful candidate will work closely and collaboratively with Jewish Studies staff, to support the Center’s branding, marketing, and communication initiatives to diverse constituencies within ASU, and the public at large.
Salary Range
$50,000 - $60,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties
- Produce creative, high-quality, and cost-effective communications for the Center’s audiences (e.g., the Jewish community, the public, faculty, staff, donors, alumni, and students)
- Participate in strategic communications planning meetings for unit projects and initiatives.
- Conceive, write, edit, and produce original content for email campaigns, e-news, outreach activities, social media, website, advertising, and marketing materials.
- Work with internal and external vendors and suppliers to coordinate media placement and printing of various types of materials.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Communications, Marketing, Education or a related field AND three (3) years of related work experience in the development of comprehensive and creative communication; OR seven (7) years of related work experience; OR Any equivalent combination of experience and or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved. Certificates from recognized programs that verify mastery of tools and techniques relevant to the assignment may substitute for up to six (6) months of experience.
Desired Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge in writing, content development and copy editing.
- Demonstrated knowledge of marketing practices and principles, media placement and graphics design concepts.
- Demonstrated knowledge of design software (Adobe Creative Suite) for desktop publishing, website management software (Drupal), and email communication and management systems (Salesforce Marketing Cloud) and social media (Facebook and YouTube).
- Experience in strategic communication planning.
- Evidence of effective communication, and oral/written/media presentation.
- Experience in media technology, design, and creative communication.
Working Environment
- Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse.
- Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone, and associated computer/technology peripherals.
- Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
- Frequent bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Regular activities require the ability to quickly change priorities, which may include resolving conflicts, coping with moderate stress levels, along with the requirements to complete tasks within set time constraints.
- Clearly communicate to perform essential functions.

The Center for Jewish Studies is a hybrid unit consisting of ASU Jewish Studies a degree granting academic unit as well as The Center which functions as a research center which develops programs to educate the public about Jewish civilization (about 25 programs a year).
