Description

Large, growing Modern Orthodox, multigenerational synagogue located in Bergen County, NJ seeks a Director of Operations with strong leadership skills required to manage multiple stakeholders and inspire staff members.

Reporting to the Board of Trustees and Synagogue President, the Director of Operations will oversee day-today activities of the synagogue by supporting lay leadership, managing office and maintenance staff, as well as outside vendors and contractors, to provide effective business and financial operations, consistent with the policies and procedures established by the Board.

 

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the day-to-day management of the synagogue’s administrative affairs, facility and ground security, building maintenance, repair, and renovation. Serve as first point of contact for synagogue vendors.
  • Work closely with the Finance Committee of the Board to balance use of financial resources relative to annual budget as well as long-term fiscal goals. Negotiate with and manage outside vendors, suppliers, and contractors. Oversee technology needs in a cost-effective way that maintains data security.
  • Manage membership onboarding, retention and delinquencies.
  • Provide administrative support to Rabbinic staff, lay leaders and Youth department.
  • Manage performance of office staff and maintenance crew.
  • Provide logistical support for all Shabbat/life cycle/High Holy Day services and synagogue activities.
  • Utilize ShulCloud platform for improving and implementing process and communication. 
  • Ensure that operations are conducted in accordance with the synagogue's constitution and by-laws.

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of Orthodox Jewish traditions and customs and alignment with community values
  • Bachelor’s degree and at least five years’ experience in a relevant leadership role, in a nonprofit and/or membership and/or religious organization; master’s degree or certificate in nonprofit management, business and human resource administration, or related field is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to utilize technology tools, leverage social media and web-based platforms for promotional and marketing purposes.
  • Ability to multitask and collaborate.
  • Understanding of basic employment law.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook), Google Suite and Adobe.
  • A familiarity with ShulCloud software is a plus. 
  • Experience with Federal grant applications is a plus.
