Position Summary:

The Director of Leadership Development is a passionate and experienced leader who plays a critical role in shaping the leadership journey of USY teens. The Director designs and implements comprehensive leadership development strategy in alignment with USY’s mission and vision of teen engagement. Through effective coaching and mentorship, the Director fosters growth and encouragement that empowers teens to apply their leadership abilities to the bigger Jewish community in support of long-term commitment to Conservative Judaism. 


  • Oversee the USY International Teen Leadership Board.
  • Design and deliver engaging leadership training programs for teens of various ages and experience levels.
  • Work with current teen leaders to develop a Teen Leadership structure that best fits the new mission and vision of USY and USCJ.
  • Create and implement a leadership training curriculum for chapter, community and international teen leaders.
  • Manage and support teen-lead leadership affinity groups. 
  • Identify and cultivate partnerships with synagogues, schools and other organizations to expand USY’s leadership development offerings.
  • Create and oversee a team of volunteers who help manage the various leadership boards across North America.
  • Plan and run one Leadership Training Institute convention annually. 
  • Collaborate with the Director of YALA (Young Adults, Leaders and Alumni) to develop and implement a mentorship program for current teen participants. 
  • Collaborate with the USY Director of Education to develop a Madrichim training program. 
  • Stay current on best practices in youth leadership development and integrate these into USY’s programs.
  • Continuously evaluate the impact of leadership development programs and adjust to increase effectiveness.
  • Frame a positive and supportive work environment with USCJ’s shared staff values of: collaboration, dedication to the mission, generosity of spirit, innovation and adaptability, integrity, solution-oriented and striving for excellence; demonstrate and holds team members accountable for “living the values” in daily work relationships and work product/outcomes.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Jewish Education, Organizational Development or related field preferred
  • 5+ years similar work experience including work with teens
  • Passion for USY’s mission and commitment to empowering Jewish teens
  • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering successful teen leadership training programs
  • Strong understanding of current teen issues and emerging trends; and strong understanding of Jewish youth culture and experience
  • Familiarity with the religious practices, values and traditions of Conservative Judaism
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Ability to identify program opportunities and collaborate with stakeholders to develop innovative strategies and initiatives
  • Outstanding communication (verbal, written and interpersonal) and relationship-building skills
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, problem solving and conflict management skills
  • Resourceful, thorough, organized and detail oriented with strong project management, time management and follow-through skills
  • Ability to effectively multitask and manage conflicting priorities while effectively managing stakeholder expectations 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask under the pressure of conflicting priorities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficient in Google Workspace and Microsoft Suite; proficient in project management systems, CRMs and customer service platforms; proficient with video conferencing technologies; and ability to quickly learn online systems and programs




Monday through Friday; requires evening meetings and weekend travel to programs and conventions

Salary Range:

$85,000 – $90,000
