Position Purpose:
To further the mission of the camp through the development and delivery of Teva (Nature) activities that are safe, fun and appropriate to the campers’ ages and abilities.  They will be responsible for the management of the Teva specialists, program, equipment and supplies. Must be available between May 24 and July 31.

Reports To:  Director of Specialty Areas (Rosh Moomchim)

Essential Job Functions:

  • Continue to grow and improve Teva programs
    • Be in contact with the Rosh Moomchim prior to the summer to discuss and start planning programs
    • Make recommendations for equipment, supplies, and programs.
  • Set up garden, farm and equipment/supplies prior to staff training week. 
  • Oversee and implement the chuggim programs
    • Responsible for the overall Teva chuggim programming
    • Evaluate the program and make adjustments accordingly
  • Oversee and implement the Teva peulot programs (Teva, Hiking, Garden, Farm Animals, Cooking, Israeli Scouts, TevaTech)
    • Responsible for the overall Teva peulot programming

  • Train and supervise the Teva specialists
    • Supervise Teva specialists to provide safe and high quality programming and invest in their growth
    • Set expectations, communicate and update the Teva specialists with information they need in order to be successful.
    • Develop ongoing training for the Teva specialists throughout the summer
    • Evaluate the Teva specialists skills before, during and at the end of  each session
    • Create a daily schedule for the Teva specialists
    • Conduct regular meetings with the Teva staff (1 check-in/day)
  • Support overnight camping trips
    • Support all aspects of overnights / camping trips
    • Train teva staff in leading overnights in partnership with Merakzim
  • Infuse Tikkun Olam and Hebrew language (primary) and Jewish/Israel education (secondary) into all programs in partnership with Chinuch (education) team
  • Create programming for Chalutzim eda on nature/outdoor/camping skill development
  • Participate in all camp and staff activities
  • Supervise area and ensure the proper and safe teaching of the campers.
    • Enforce all rules and policies at camp, within the specialty area and with the camp as a whole.  
  • Assist in packing all materials and supplies at the end of season

Desired Qualifications:

  • 21+ Years Old
  • Training and experience with outdoor education programs including, gardening, farming, animal care, scouting, outdoor cooking, camping and outdoor skills.
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience with and knowledge of the Israeli Scouts program and experience as a leader in the Israeli Scouts is a plus!
  • Understanding and knowledge of Jewish Camping in America (specifically Young Judaea camps)

Knowledge Skills and Abilities: 

 

  • Ability to coordinate a Teva program, including planning, and helping to execute Teva Chuggim and Peulot
  • Desire and ability to supervise, train staff, invest in the growth of the Teva department
  • Desire and ability to work with children and teach them Jewish values in an outdoor, Texas environment
  • Ability to accept supervision, guidance and act as a role model to inspire children and staff
  • Ability to coordinate periods off and days off for Teva Specialists
