Status: Full-time, exempt
Compensation: $67,500 – $87,500 commensurate with experience, plus benefits package
Start Date: Fall 2025

About Tivnu
Tivnu: Building Justice is the only Jewish gap year program based in the United States. Rooted in Portland, Oregon, Tivnu connects Jewish life, social justice work, and hands-on learning for teens through our immersive gap year and short-term programs. As a small non-profit, we all contribute to many aspects of the organization. We are seeking a detail-oriented, systems-savvy Deputy Program Director to strengthen the foundation that supports our powerful programming.
Position Overview
The Deputy Program Director will run our growing short program initiative, coordinate logistics for our gap year program, and will ensure all Tivnu programs are supported effectively by administrative systems. This role is ideal for someone with five years’ experience who wants to contribute to a mission-driven team and has experience in nonprofits including program implementation, administration, and systems management. Tivnu is seeking someone who can help grow our programs through a combination of skills, both programmatic and administrative. Our top strategic priority is significant program growth and this person will make sure Tivnu runs smoothly as programs expand, working collaboratively with organization leadership and supporting systems. This position provides leadership for our short programs, coordinates logistics for our all programs, and manages our operations.
Core Responsibilities
Short-Term Programs
Implement our plan to significantly expand the number of short-term programs annually:
- Work with key staff to develop relationships with new organizations to bring high school students for group short-term programs, with a concentration on partner organizations in the Pacific Northwest
- Design and implement all aspects of short program including logistical coordination for visiting groups, scheduling, venues, catering, transportation, waivers, contracts, and communications
- Work with non-profit partners in Portland and our construction coach to manage volunteer opportunities for program participants that have a significant impact on constituents served by those non-profits
- Lead educational programs for visiting groups, as appropriate
- Track participation data and program evaluation to support grant applicationsand program improvement
- Manage all aspects of short program budget
- Ensure the short program is supported effectively by systems including HR, finance, and IT
Gap Year Program
Support the flourishing and growth of the signature Tivnu Gap Year program:
- Manage enrollment with gap year families
- Coordinate logistical arrangements for group trips and transportation
- Oversee Tivnu housing facilities and van fleet, including maintenance scheduling and vendor coordination
- Manage CRM database tracking gap year prospects and recruitment partners, and our email marketing and social media platforms
- Manage all aspects of gap year program budget
- Ensure the gap year program is supported effectively by systems, including HR, finance, and IT
Tivnu: Building Justice is a small team operation. All staff members contribute skills as needed, and learn new skills to fill gaps. We are looking for a team member who is flexible, team-oriented, and excited to grow with us.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Five years of experience and demonstrated success in nonprofit operations
- Superior organizational, logistical, problem solving, and project management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient with spreadsheets, databases, and digital tools; Salesforce experience a plus
- Capable of managing competing priorities with attention to detail
- Proven track record of taking initiative and working independently between supervisory meetings; demonstrated success in collaborative work environments
- Flexibility and availability to facilitate programs outside regular business hours. Evenings and weekends required for program implementation. Occasional travel.
- Valid driver’s license and excellent driving record. Will be required to drive a 12-15 passenger vans as needed.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
- Knowledge of Jewish holiday and kosher observances
- Ability to lift fifteen pounds
- Commitment to Tivnu’s mission and social justice work
