Northeastern Hillel

Role Overview

NU Hillel now seeks to employ a full time Director of Finance and Operations to ensure an excellent back office. The successful applicant for this full-time exempt position will possess both acute financial oversight and robust operational experience.

Northeastern Hillel’s Director of Operations and Finance is part of the leadership team, running all aspects of the organization's financial and operational activities.This involves budgeting, accounting, financial reporting, compliance and security, building upkeep, programmatic operations, and technology oversight. The Director of Operations and Finance is a full-time position with greater workload during the academic year and lighter hours during the summer and other school breaks. Northeastern Hillel is a team-oriented, collaborative and highly flexible work environment; some evening and weekend hours will be necessary to support special programs and/or projects and fundraising events.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management

  • Develop and manage the annual budget in collaboration with the Executive Director and Board Treasurer.
  • Monitor financial performance and provide regular reports to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
  • Work in alignment with the Development Director regarding recording keeping for all donations and grants.
  • Manage all accounting activities in Quick Books:
    • Accounts payable and accounts receivable.
    • Monitor expenses, revenues, and cash flow to ensure financial sustainability.
    • Manage payroll.
    • Administer fund transfers from the University.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Prepare and submit annual taxes.
  • Organize grant budgets and financial audits and reports.

Operational Management

  • Facilities management including maintenance, repairs, renovations, security, housekeeping, service contracts, and keeping the building up to code in all respects.
  • Work in alignment with the Associate Director with regard to all student programming, and Development Director regarding all fundraising events.
  • Maintain and continue to improve organizational policies and procedures related to operations and finance.
  • Manage procurement processes, including vendor selection, contract negotiation, and purchasing.
  • Oversee technological systems, upgrades, and purchases, including hardware, software, and interconnectivity.
  • Manage HR benefits and new employee onboarding.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and organizational policies
  • Manage apartment rentals.

Strategic Planning and Leadership

  • Serve as a member of the senior leadership team.
  • Help develop long-term strategic plans and goals.
  • Provide financial analysis and operational insights to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Identify opportunities for growth and improvement in operational and financial areas.
  • Build and maintain relationships with University partners, vendors, and other relevant parties.
  • Join Hillel International’s operations professional cohort.
  • Participate in organizational and board meetings as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field. (Master's degree preferred.)
  • CPA certification or equivalent professional qualification is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in financial management and operations, preferably in a nonprofit or educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of financial principles and practices, including budgeting, financial analysis, and compliance.
  • Knowledge of Quickbooks, Excel, Microsoft 360, and aptitude for learning new systems.
  • Excellent management and team skills.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.

You’ll Receive

  • Competitive salary in the nonprofit marketplace. The salary range for this full time position is $75,000 to $85,000.

Northeastern Hillel is based in a double brownstone on the urban Northeastern university campus. Unique to Northeastern, the majority of the undergraduate population participates in two co-ops, which are full time paid six month internships starting the spring of their sophomore year. Our Hillel creates a vibrant Jewish community, supporting and cultivating student leadership and programming. Through leadership training, education, volunteerism, social, spiritual, and cultural opportunities, students are inspired to realize their potential and become the best versions of themselves. We have a growing Hillel that has recently expanded in the areas of engagement and outreach. Our team consists of 10 professionals. We serve approximately 1,500 Jewish students.
