Beth Sholom Congregation of Elkins Park, PA is a premiere Conservative synagogue in the Philadelphia area whose synagogue, a National Historic Landmark, was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Beth Sholom is known for its welcoming and inclusive approach and for the variety of spiritual services it provides to its congregants.
Beth Sholom seeks a Torah Reader (Ba'al Koreh) to serve its active and engaged community on Shabbat and holidays (except High Holidays). Beth Sholom follows the triennial cycle (7 aliyot and maftir). On occasion, congregants chants one or more of the aliyot and the Ba'al Koreh chants the remaining aliyot.
Currently, Shabbat services begin at 9:30 AM and are broadcast online.
Must be well-versed in Hebrew and Torah trope (cantillation) and should have sufficient experience to chant the portion directly from the scroll, clearly, and audibly.
