The mission of the Dr. Miriam and Sheldon G. Adelson (The Adelson School) is to instruct and inspire new generations of students who will draw strength from a rich Jewish heritage, and use their knowledge, values and vision to fulfill their own potential and build a better world.  The Adelson School, founded on Jewish values and ethos, is the only preschool-12th grade Jewish community school in Nevada.

 

Position Summary: The Adelson School, a uniquely pluralistic Jewish day school, seeks a qualified and enthusiastic long-term Judaics studies instructor starting in August 2023. The ideal candidate will be able to teach Jewish texts, Jewish history, and Jewish thought from a pluralistic perspective and with 21st-century education philosophy in mind. They will be able to implement the existing curricula and further develop them. They will be able to integrate the development of evergreen skills into classroom activities. The ideal candidate will be able to create positive relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and administration, and clearly communicate regarding progress, strengths, goals, and expectations. In addition to teaching responsibilities, members of the Judaic Studies department also plan and lead Jewish Life programs that contribute to the life of the school.

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficiency in Jewish texts and history, both ancient and modern.
  • Knowledge of the Hebrew language.
  • Classroom management skills.
  • Ability to reflect on their own practice and commitment to ongoing professional development in teaching & learning.
  • Ability to assess students in a variety of methods and write constructive feedback to each student twice a year.
  • Collaborator, honest, and dependable.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required, Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Prior teaching experience is highly preferred.
  • Experience in working with Google tools and learning management systems.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting.
  • Must be able to lift twenty-five pounds at times.
  • At times may be required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Must be able to traverse school facility and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency.
