About Camp Hadar
Camp Hadar is a co-ed Jewish day camp for children ages 4-16 located on 17 acres of scenic woods and sandy beach in Salem, New Hampshire. Our goal is to provide all campers with a fun, safe, and rewarding camping experience with an emphasis placed on personal growth, friendship, and fun. We have proudly served families living in Massachusetts and New Hampshire for over 60 years.

Camp Director
Reports to: Board of Directors
Status: Seasonal – Full-time during summer, part-time during off-season prep

Position Summary
The Camp Director is the chief executive of Camp Hadar’s summer program in Salem, NH. Responsible for strategic leadership, the Director oversees all aspects of camp operations, including planning programs, managing budgets, staff culture, safety, and camper experience. The Director serves as the primary point of contact for parents and the Board, ensuring that the camp delivers a safe, joyful, and enriching experience rooted in Jewish values and traditions.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

  • Provide day-to-day leadership, and direction for the camp in alignment with Jewish values of community, respect, and kindness.
  • Represent the camp to parents, the Board, and community stakeholders.
  • Ensure that all camp programs reflect the overall vision which includes Jewish identity, traditions, and culture.

Staff Leadership & Supervision

  • Recruit, hire, train, and directly supervise senior staff (Assistant Director, Director of Leadership & Training, Waterfront Director, Head Counselors).
  • Lead pre-camp staff orientation for senior staff; support implementation of general staff training.
  • Conduct formal evaluations of senior staff and provide feedback throughout the season.

Parent & Board Communication

  • Serve as the primary contact for parents on camper well-being, behavior, and emergencies.
  • Provide weekly updates to the Board and submit end-of-season reports.
  • Safety, Compliance & Risk Management
  • Oversee all health, safety, and compliance protocols.
  • Serve as final decision-maker in the event of an emergency.

Finance & Administration

  • Manage budget, payroll, and vendor contracts in coordination with the Board Treasurer.
  • Approve ordinary purchases and expenditures.
  • Consult with the Board for approval of large purchases and expenditures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent leadership experience.
  • At least 3–5 years of supervisory experience in camp, youth, or educational leadership.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certified.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and financial management skills.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledgeable in Jewish traditions with the ability to foster a welcoming and inclusive camp environment to children of all cultures and backgrounds.
  • Enthusiasm for working with children in a camp setting.
