Description

Tikkun Olam Community Organizer

Tikkun Olam is a foundational element of Temple Beth Elohim’s (TBE) vision and values. As we continue to foster meaningful engagement for our community post-pandemic and the complicated world post-October 7th, TBE is expanding our professional team to include a full time community organizer who will work in partnership with the volunteer leaders of our 20+ wide-ranging initiatives, (both direct service and advocacy) to engage TBE members (existing and new) in repairing the world. In addition to supporting Tikkun Olam initiatives, the individual in this role will engage in relational organizing to sustain congregant involvement in Tikkun Olam activities and develop pipelines for new leadership.

The Tikkun Olam Community Organizer is a bridge-builder amongst Tikkun Olam groups, between clergy/staff and Tikkun Olam leaders, and between TBE and outside partners (e.g. GBIO, JALSA, JCRC, RAC, etc.) working in partnership with TBE professional staff and clergy, the Board Vice President of Tikkun Olam and lay-leaders to advance TBE members’ experience of meaningful social justice work as a Jewish practice. As a member of the TBE professional team, the organizer will design and implement programs and meetings, coordinate  and participate in Tikkun Olam actions and activities, draft and disseminate communications to promote and share the work of the Tikkun Olam initiatives, develop relationships and work with outside organizations, engage in 1:1 meetings with TBE members, and all the other work needed to sustain and grow TBE’s robust engagement in Tikkun Olam.

Who we are:

Temple Beth Elohim is a vibrant, thriving congregation in Wellesley, MA, and stands as an innovator in many areas of synagogue life.  Our 1300 member families travel to TBE from 37 different Boston-area communities to seek its caring and spiritual search and to commit themselves to exploring new ways of Jewish learning and living by finding their own paths towards shalom. More than 600 children in our community engage regularly in learning programs and community building. Hundreds of adult community members participate in Tikkun Olam initiatives, creating the spiritual, intellectual, social, activist and caring aspects of communal life at TBE. Truly amazing things are happening here and we can’t wait to welcome a new Tikkun Olam Community Organizer to advance our social justice work.
