About the position:

The Teen Programs Coordinator at Temple Beth Zion-Beth Israel (BZBI) will be an important part of our dynamic team of synagogue professionals, and work closely with the Director of Youth and Family Education as well as other members of our staff. They will play a vital role developing teen leaders, facilitating meaningful and fun programming for middle school and high school age kids/teens, and co-creating community with them. This is a fifteen hour per week position, and reports to the Director of Youth and Family Education. Candidates should live in Philadelphia or within easy driving distance to the city. 


The Teen Programs Coordinator’s responsibilities will include:

  • Help plan and implement programming for youth and family department
  • Teen engagement
  • Communication with teens and their families, including promoting programs/events 
  • Supervise and run BZBI USY (teen youth group)
  • Hold a USY Chapter Board orientation/retreat prior to the start of the school year that will include setting goals for the year, scheduling Chapter events for the year, and assigning roles to Board members.
  • Plan and implement one USY chapter event per month between September 2022 and May 2023
  • Supervise and run Kadima (middle school youth group, 5th-7th grade) 
  • Plan and implement one Kadima chapter event per month between September 2022 and May 2023
  • Planning an event includes setting a date, reserving the location in advance (including when held at BZBI), arranging transportation, promoting it to teens, collecting RSVP’s and sending reminders. Some of the planning responsibilities can be delegated to USY Board members. If an event requires additional planning responsibilities that are not listed above, you will work with the Director of Youth and Family Education to determine who is responsible for them.
  • Oversee BZBI’s Rosh Hodesh and Shevet Moving Traditions groups, including partnering with the Director of Youth and Family Education on: recruitment, communication, and supervision of group leaders
  • Attend relevant BZBI staff meetings as needed
  • Participate in relevant staff trainings and professional development opportunities, in coordination with the Director of Youth and Family Education
  • Track income and expenses for events, and ensure they are in line with the annual Teen budget. 
  • Submit monthly blurbs to BZBI’s Communication Coordinator about upcoming Teen events.
  • Weekly supervision/collaboration meetings with the Director of Youth and Family Education
  • Partner with the Director of Youth and Family Education on other initiatives related to teen engagement.

* Opportunity to teach in Hebrew High School program also available if interested/skill set aligns

Our ideal candidate has:

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks
  • A desire to work as part of a dynamic team
  • Competency with computer skills, including: Google apps (Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Forms) and social media
  • Work experience related to youth engagement, education, and/or youth leadership development and mentoring
  • Experience in camp, youth group, and/or other teen programming settings
  • A passion for relational engagement
  • A desire to support middle school and high school age kids/teens in building a strong peer community and developing leadership skills
  • A strong connection to Jewish community and their own Jewish identity
