Temple Beth Shalom B’nei Mitzvah Coordinator
TEMPLE BETH SHALOM (TBS) in Santa Fe, New Mexico, seeks a B’nei Mitzvah Coordinator, starting summer 2025, who is passionate about Jewish identity and learning. The person in this position prepares our TBS teens and their families for this significant ceremony, and beyond – you are the link who supports their ongoing participation in our community; you nurture lifelong commitment to Jewish learning and growth.
WHO WE ARE: Temple Beth Shalom is a welcoming and inclusive Reform synagogue in the unique and culturally rich city of Santa Fe, New Mexico. The extraordinary beauty, vast skies, and stunning sunsets of the high-altitude desert lend to a profound sense of spirituality.
The oldest and largest Jewish community in Santa Fe, now with around 300 households (about 800 individuals), TBS continues to grow. Our community is guided by our Rabbi of 11 years, and our Executive Director has been with us for 7 years. Our staff are kind, creative, and collaborative; we work in partnership with lay leadership, committees, and volunteers.

EDUCATION IS A CONTINUUM at TBS; all ages and stages contribute to the sustainability of our community and durability of our tradition. Supervised and supported by our Religious School Director, as B’nei Mitzvah Coordinator you help shape our Jewish future. The scope of this position includes:
- Assess student readiness, with awareness of learning styles and special needs.
- Provide packs and recordings of Torah readings to students.
- Tutor students in their readings and blessings to ensure competence in the Hebrew of their Torah portion and all prayers.
- Monitor and maintain records of student progress.
- Support, serve as a resource, and maintain ongoing communication with families.
- Participate in event rehearsal.
- Coordinate and participate in the B’nei Mitzvah service the day of the event.
- Availability to contract directly with parents if additional tutoring hours are needed.

THE DETAILS:
This is a part-time position, with variable and seasonal hours. Depending on the number of students at the requisite level of readiness, this number may range from three to five or more. The per-student rate of $1,200.00 is expected to cover an average of 18-20-hours of individual instruction, plus rehearsal and event. Parents may contract with you directly if additional tutoring hours are needed. Background check required.
