Membership & Program Manager

Adas Israel, an 1800-household synagogue in the nation's capital and a magnate for contemporary Jewish life,  is seeking a warm, highly organized, and mission-driven team player to serve as our Membership & Program Manager.

This is a people-centered position at the heart of synagogue life—supporting membership, engagement, data and donor tracking, fundraising administration, and program logistics. The ideal candidate combines sharp attention to detail with a love for building community. You’ll work closely with lay leaders, clergy, and senior staff to ensure members and guests feel welcomed, connected, and well-supported.

Key Responsibilities
Membership & Engagement

  • Serve as a front-line point of contact for new, prospective, and existing members.
  • Track and support member journeys, ensuring every individual feels seen and valued.
  • Manage new member intake and onboarding, including applications, welcome communication, and personal outreach.
  • Help coordinate synagogue-wide membership campaigns, Hesed (care-taking) programs, and engagement initiatives.
  • Maintain and clean member data in the synagogue database (ShulCloud).
  • Plan proactively for how to reach and engage members who may not yet feel connected, including 1:1 outreach and small-group engagement.
  • Support membership-related communications, including renewal notices, dues reminders, and financial collections, in partnership with the finance and communications teams.

Fundraising & Development Support

  • Provide administrative support for fundraising campaigns and donor engagement events.
  • Assist with donor record-keeping, pledge tracking, and thank-you communications.
  • Run reports and lists for development efforts and membership analysis.

Programming & Events

  • Support assigned synagogue programs with behind-the-scenes logistics—calendar bookings, room setups, catering orders, name tags, RSVPs, signage, and supplies.
  • Serve as on-site support for major synagogue events (some evenings/weekends required).
  • Coordinate volunteer involvement and work closely with colleagues across departments to ensure smooth operations.

Qualifications

  • Friendly, outgoing personality and a sincere love of community
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects at once
  • Comfort with databases (ideally ShulCloud or Salesforce-style platforms), spreadsheets, and forms
  • High attention to detail and follow-through
  • Ability to troubleshoot on the fly and work both independently and collaboratively
  • 2–4 years of relevant work experience (synagogue, nonprofit, customer service, or events a plus)

Familiarity with Jewish life and synagogue culture preferred.

Qualified candidates are encouraged to submit their resume and cover letter directly to [email protected]
