The Chelsea Shul Chabad-  is a non-profit community center serving Chelsea & the West village areas. Primarily focused on the Jewish residents but open to all. Our anchor and main program is The Chelsea Gan, a warm progressive Preschool. We are also home to a Synagogue, Jewish Graduate programming (Jgrads NYC), The Tikkun Chelsea food project; Holiday events and Jewish Life-Cycle Services. We are completely independent legally and financially. Our center is located at 236 West 23rd Street, New York, NY 10011

 

The Role:
The Chelsea Shul Chabad  is seeking a Director of Administration to assist with their growing organization. This individual will wear multiple hats and oversee finance, HR, and operational tasks for their Center, schools and programs. We are seeking an individual who has the ability to navigate requirements for licensing, insurance and grants that would impact the school at the NYC, NYS and federal level.

Responsibilities for Preschool & general programming:

  • Responsible for the strategic implementation of administrative procedures, and programmatic oversight.
  • Oversee hiring of preschool staff (teachers and assistants), onboarding, and HR policy
  • Establish educational staff schedules, including approval of time off requests and coordination of classroom substitute teachers to ensure appropriate classroom coverage
  • Liaise with an array of stakeholders including Department of Education, Department of Health & Mental Hygiene
  • Liaise with parents about any issues with enrollment and need communication 
  • Manage NY Preschool record-keeping processes, including health logs, required DOH paperwork, family communication documents, surveys, and PKA materials, and invoicing. 
  • Assist with preparing the annual budget, monitor finances, oversee department purchasing.
  • Assist with donor management program strategy and financials
  • Program management in working and selecting vendors for various initiatives and projects, including ordering and managing the set up of events. 
  • Coordinating with Tikkun Chelsea lead volunteers to support the project and monthly get togethers 
  • Coordinate monthly events for the Jgrads NYC. 
  • Update websites and twice a week social media updates. 


Desired Skills + Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of management/leadership experience 
  • Strong leadership, hospitality, and organizational skills 
  • Commitment to the highest level of facility safety and cleanliness
  • Experience with bookkeeping, payroll, Accounts Payable and Receivable
  • The ability to be both strategic and tactical in an ever changing environment
