Position Title: Youth Director (part-time)

Overview:
The Jewish Center, a flagship Modern Orthodox synagogue in the heart of Manhattan’s Upper West Side, is seeking a dynamic Youth Director or Youth Director Couple to lead and grow our youth programming. This is a central role in a thriving, energized community with strong momentum among young families looking for a shul home uptown.

We’re looking for warm, creative, and organized leaders who can build meaningful Jewish experiences and connections for kids and families through Shabbat programs, holiday events, and engaging educational activities.

The ideal candidate will help make The Jewish Center the place where young families want to be—on Shabbat, holidays, and throughout the year—to spend time with their kids, connect with each other, and feel at home.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Shabbat Programming:
Lead weekly Shabbat morning groups and afternoon activities; coordinate Teen Minyan; and help run a spirited monthly “Family Minyan” for young families.
  • Events & Holidays:
Plan and execute exciting and educational youth events for all ages, especially younger children; develop chaggim programming, Israel-related activities, and chesed opportunities.
  • Community Building:
Build relationships with children and parents; actively engage/recruit prospective new families; collaborate with clergy and the Youth Committee, as well as with other internal administrative colleagues within the Jewish Center
  • Leadership & Administration:
Recruit and manage teen and group leaders; oversee youth programming budget management; maintain a calendar of youth events; send weekly email updates to parents; coordinate with volunteers etc.

Qualifications:

  • A genuine love for children, a warm and natural connection with them, and a passion for creating meaningful, educational, and fun moments together
  • Experience working with children in Jewish educational or recreational settings
  • Creative, dependable, and energized by building community
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Social media savvy and comfortable using digital tools (email, Canva, scheduling platforms) to promote events and engage families
  • Available in-person on Shabbat, chaggim, and select Sundays/weekdays (with some flexibility for pre-approved time off)
  • Minimum 2-year commitment
  • Compensation commensurate with experience.  Salary range: $40,000 - $50,000
