Role Overview

The Engagement Associate, under the direction of the Program Director and Executive Director, will be responsible for creating an engagement strategy to maintain a warm and welcoming Jewish community on campus, through working with and supervising students on program planning, outreach, and oversight.

Overview of Responsibilities:

General Staff Responsibilities:

  • Work cooperatively and collaboratively with Hillel program staff, administration staff, and recruitment interns for the promotion of Taglit-Birthright Israel trips.

    • This includes seasonal trip recruitment, Birthright Israel staffing responsibilities, and post-trip follow-up programming.

  • Maintain program attendance records for measurement and ongoing evaluation.

  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director on the marketing components of applicable programs.

  • Participate as a member of the IU Hillel staff team in major programs, Shabbats, and holidays.

  • Represent the IU Hillel Foundation on campus with students, faculty and administration as appropriate, as well as with the wider community.

  • Recruit, organize, build a curriculum and teach students for Hillel’s X170 leadership courses.

Student Engagement & Programming:

  • Design and implement a strategic engagement plan, targeting high priority student populations, and utilizing student engagement data to prioritize, track, and evaluate outreach.

  • Develop one-on-one relationships with Jewish students by meeting them where they live, work and/or study, utilizing creative methods to reach and interest them.

  • Develop means of communication with students for the purposes of program recruitment and marketing of new engagement opportunities.

  • Train students in use of outreach strategies to increase their effectiveness at communication and marketing of their programs.

  • Strengthen and support student leadership teams and student groups, including but not limited to:

    • Engagement Team

    • First Year Students of Hillel (FYSH)

    • Mitzvah Corps & Challah for Hungry Hoosiers

  • Develop key relationships with professionals from the university’s student life programs. These one-on-one relationships help to ensure positive positioning of Hillel in the university landscape, as well as facilitate partners in the planning and actualization of programs and activities.

Supervision:

  • Participate in weekly professional supervision with the Executive Director, and weekly staff meetings.

  • Participate in ongoing Jewish learning and growth with other staff members.

Qualifications:

  • The Program/Engagement Associate must be capable of working independently and as part of a team, and have the ability to prioritize and handle multiple assignments.
  • Candidates must have an Undergraduate degree and an interest in marketing and creating innovative strategies to engage Jewish students on campus.
  • 0-2 years post college experience.
  • Creativity, flexibility, passion, a sense of humor, and excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership development skills are essential to success in this position.

  • Competitive salary in the non-profit marketplace. The salary range for this role is $40,000 - $42,000.
