U.S. MEDIA RESEARCH ANALYST: BOSTON or JERUSALEM Preferred
CAMERA seeks to hire a U.S. Media Analyst, preferably in Boston or Jerusalem, to enhance our capacity to monitor, engage with, and respond to US media outlets and their coverage of Israel, the Middle East, and antisemitism. Each successful candidate will be passionately interested in Israel and the Middle East and in the vital work of ensuring those subjects are presented accurately in influential news outlets. The individual must be a strong writer, rigorous researcher and someone who collaborates well with dedicated professionals in multiple departments on vital issues related to Israel and antisemitism. The position entails monitoring, analyzing, writing, and communicating continuously with the media and the public. The researcher will report to the Director of Media Research and Analysis.
Responsibilities of the Position
§ Monitoring various American media outlets for accuracy and context in coverage of Israel, the Arab-Israel conflict, Zionism, and antisemitism.
§ Maintaining continuous, close awareness of breaking news developments.
§ Researching the accuracy of media reports, using a variety of sources and research tools.
§ Communicating with journalists, academics, specialists, NGOs and government officials regarding coverage — either to elicit facts or to challenge misinformation.
§ Writing articles, Op-Eds, blog posts, speeches.
§ Lecturing to community and campus groups.
§ Collaborating with other CAMERA staff in the Media Research and Analysis Department, including in the Spanish, Hebrew and Arabic-language programs, and with staff in other CAMERA departments.
§ Responding to public information requests and concerns about coverage of Israel, the Arab-Israel conflict, antisemitism, and related topics.
Required Skills and Experience
§ Commitment to the goals of CAMERA which aim to expose and correct media misinformation and bias against Israel and anti-Jewish bigotry.
§ Knowledge of the history of Israel and the Middle East.
§ Knowledge of journalistic practices.
§ Research experience, including with news databases.
§ Strong analytical writing skills.
§ Strong interpersonal skills, necessary for interaction with members of the media, staff and the public.
§ Willingness to travel occasionally for lectures and meetings.
§ Knowledge of PPT and other presentation formats a plus.
