Temple Israel is seeking a dynamic Assistant Director of Youth Education and Programming. This full-time position is responsible for planning and executing innovative programming with our youth (grades K-12), creating positive Jewish experiences; planning social events, and leading informal Jewish educational opportunities. The Assistant Director of Youth Education and Programming (“ADYEP”) will build on the strong foundations of our youth program to sustain a meaningful, values-driven, and fun community for our youth. The ADYEP will work collaboratively with clergy, staff, and lay leaders to create a welcoming and enriching environment that promotes Jewish learning and values, Jewish pride, and community involvement.

This position is supervised by the Director of Youth Education and Programming.

Responsibilities: 

  • Lead bi-monthly “Kehillah High” educational experiences for 8th-12th graders
  • Lead weekly Shabbat morning Junior Congregation for 5th-8th graders
  • Create and run weekly Sunday morning youth group lounge activities for 5-8th graders
  • Lead ongoing monthly social activities and volunteer opportunities for multiple age groups ie: tikkun olam projects or recreational outings 
  • Plan and execute a Shabbaton for all religious school and Kehillah High families
  • Serve as lead professional for all non-religious school youth programming, grades K-12
  • Work with regional USY leadership to continue building the foundation for the local chapter and collaborating with other USYs in the region
  • Develop strong relationships with youth, teens, and families and the volunteer Education committee and chairs
  • Assist with the vision, mission, and curriculum setting of all K-12 educational and social programming
  • Recruit for and communicate about all youth events 
  • Assist in creating and implementing grade-level Family Education Programs, Jr. Congregation, Holiday Programs, Services, and special programs. 
  • Oversee established and thriving youth and teen programs
  • Recruit, train, and mentor youth group volunteers and student leaders to build program ownership 
  • Support and train religious school teen volunteer madrichim
  • Evaluate programs; collect feedback and implement enhancements in partnership with lay leadership, Director, and clergy
  • Help in religious school classrooms as needed 
  • Assist in managing departmental budget
  • Collaborate with senior staff and clergy 

Onsite presence is required during the academic year including Shabbat morning Junior Congregation, Religious School on Sunday mornings, Monday and Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons. High Holiday and other holiday responsibilities required. Evening and weekend events are based on a programmatic calendar. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required, Masters in Education or Jewish Education preferred.
  • At least 2 years of previous experience preferred (including teaching, camp staff, youth group advisor, Jewish educational programs) 
  • Strong interpersonal skills
    • Exceptional ability to communicate, connect with, and build relationships with youth, teens, and colleagues.
    • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with parents, volunteers, and staff
  • Self-starter, who can work independently and has a drive to do their best
  • Excellent project management and administrative skills; proven experience running programs independently from start to finish
  • Proficiency in social media, database/CRM, and Microsoft suite
  • Ability to manage and administer the annual department budget with the support of the Education Director
