With a focus on serving the needs of adolescents and young adults, parents and professionals, the Addiction Specialist will engage in the development and implementation of addiction and recovery awareness, prevention, and support in the Jewish community.
Responsibilities
- Assist community members in locating appropriate treatment resources, problem solving around problematic drug use or other compulsive behaviors and learning about addictive disorders.
- Develop and provide community education to increase knowledge of addiction, recovery, and prevention in the Jewish community, with a focus on adolescents, young adults, and parents (in collaboration with colleagues at JCFS Response for Teens).
- Represent JCFS Chicago on, and partner with, community coalitions and other groups that promote youth drug prevention and addiction recovery.
- Provide clinical consultation regarding alcohol and other drug and non-substance related addiction to JCFS and affiliated agency clinical staff.
- Offer training to professionals, clergy, and lay leaders to enhance competency relating to addictive disorders and addiction prevention.
Requirements
- A certification as an Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Counselor (CADC).
- Masters degree in social work or related field preferred.
- 3+ years of professional experience in youth/young adult drug prevention education.
- Engaging, professional and educational public speaking skills and interpersonal skills required both in-person and online.
- Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends, and to travel to different locations primarily in Chicago’s north side and suburban areas.
