How do we help children bring Judaism to life for themselves? This is the question that motivates our youth learning at Kerem Shalom, a progressive Jewish community in Concord, Massachusetts, and we seek educators who want to join us in working with children this way.
In the past few years, we have transformed our learning programs, launching the "Hebrew School Reimagined" progam, an experiential learning environment that nurtures creativity, community, and joy. As part of this program, students in grades 3-6 choose an experiential elective, in which they engage in deep Jewish learning through a variety of activities. In the past we have offered drama, drumming, visual arts, American sign Language, ceramics, and we aim to expand the choices we can offer our students by bringing in new specialists.
Individuals with a passion for a particular activity that could be a vehicle for Jewish learning are encouraged to apply for the position of Experiential Elective Teacher. ARTS? MUSIC? STEM? OUTDOORS? OTHERS WELCOME.
Experiential Elective Teachers are part of a supportive, professional Hebrew School faculty and are supervised by Kerem Shalom’s Director of Education and Engagement, Scott Newman. Previous experience working with children, especially those with diverse learning needs, is a preferred qualification. We look forward to meeting candidates who can insipre Jewish children and are excited about bringing Judaism to life in engaging, personal. and creative ways.
