Description

Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy is a pluralistic Jewish day school for students in grades 6-12. Located in Bryn Mawr, PA, Barrack is the premier Jewish day school in the Delaware Valley, attracting students from Philadelphia and its suburbs, Allentown, New Jersey, and Delaware. The school integrates a comprehensive and rigorous college preparatory curriculum with the teaching of essential Jewish and American values and texts. Guided by our four Derech Eretz  values of honor, moral courage, kindness, and community, Barrack values diversity, celebrates the richness of Judaism's language, culture, and history, and is strongly connected to Israel. Barrack prepares future leaders of the American, Jewish, and global communities who work for a better world through acts of justice and compassion.

Barrack Hebrew Academy seeks an experienced, organized, thoughtful, and caring educator to serve as the full-time Director of Academic Support Services for the 2023-2024 school year. As an experienced leader, this is an expanded role for an individual interested in elevating an already strong support program and strengthening it for all of our students with accommodations or academic support services. The Director of Academic Support Services will 1) lead and supervise the learning support program; 2) ensure documentation is available for any Barrack student with accommodations and services; 3) coach and collaborate with learning specialists, counselors, division directors, and faculty; 4) provide direct support services to a subset of students; 5) serve as a member of the academic leadership team.

Interested candidates should have the ability to collaborate with colleagues with backgrounds in both learning support and general education. The candidate will foster a growth mindset for students and teachers and  facilitate inter-departmental meetings, attend team meetings, and support teachers with differentiated instruction and curriculum to meet the needs of Barrack students. Candidates should have experience in teaching executive functioning and metacognitive skills through multi-sensory techniques and have a strong understanding of developmentally appropriate current practices in education. A background and understanding of psycho-educational testing and evaluations and creating classroom accommodations and modification plans based on assessments is essential to the role. In addition, the candidate will serve as a resource and professional development leader for Barrack faculty.

In order to support students, the Director of Academic Support Services will communicate with students, parents, and faculty, as well as serve as a liaison to outside support personnel. The Director of Academic Support Services will represent the school at communal events including, but not limited to, admissions programs and student and parent orientations. Working closely with students, parents, and faculty, the ideal candidate will bring a positive energy to the school community and foster an inclusive environment where students feel safe to take risks and grow in their learning.

Desired skills, experience, and education include:

  • Doctoral or master’s degree in Special Education, Psychology, or a related subject area
  • School leadership as well as classroom teaching experience
  • A strong work ethic
  • Enthusiasm for working with students and participating in school life
