The Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach is seeking a Director of Education to provide vision and leadership for all educational initiatives. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating programs that ensure Holocaust education remains impactful, historically accurate, and accessible to diverse audiences across South Florida and beyond. The Director of Education will also play a key role in preparing for the launch of the Memorial’s new Education Center in Winter 2026, guiding the development of its programs and resources to ensure a successful opening and lasting community impact.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Educational Program Development & Delivery
• Create, enhance, and market Holocaust education programs for students, teachers, and the public.
• Design curriculum resources and lesson plans aligned with Florida state standards and best practices in Holocaust pedagogy.
• Provide professional development for educators across public, private, charter, homeschool, and virtual schools, as well as Memorial docents.
• Oversee educational activities for student field trips, ensuring quality, accuracy, and engagement.
Community Engagement & Public Programs
• Coordinate with the CEO to develop and organize community programs including Holocaust Education Week, Yom HaShoah, and Kristallnacht commemorations.
• Develop and implement public programs such as lectures, film screenings, author talks, and scholar presentations.
• Build and strengthen partnerships with schools, universities, and community organizations.
• Represent the Memorial at professional conferences, workshops, and community events locally, nationally, and internationally.
Docent & Youth Leadership Oversight
• Recruit, train, and supervise docents to ensure effective, engaging tours and educational experiences.
• Provide ongoing training in historical content and pedagogy.
• Manage youth leadership initiatives such as the Young Lions of Judah and Ambassadors Program.
Grant Development & Strategic Initiatives
• Write and manage education-related grants, ensuring compliance and effective use of resources.
• Identify opportunities for new program funding and integrate grant objectives into education initiatives.
• Lead the development of educational programs and resources for the new Holocaust Memorial Education Center (Winter 2026), collaborating with staff, partners, and stakeholders. Leadership & Administration
• Supervise the Education Outreach Manager, providing mentorship, guidance, and professional development.
• Establish performance goals, conduct evaluations, and foster professional growth.
• Ensure alignment and coordination of education team projects with institutional priorities.
• Liaise with the Education Committee and Holocaust Memorial Committee, including reporting and communication with stakeholders.
• Oversee the development and distribution of the monthly education newsletter.
• Track and evaluate program outcomes using measurable metrics.
• Represent the Holocaust Memorial at Greater Miami Jewish Federation programs and events.
• Serve as a positive ambassador for the mission of remembrance, education, and community engagement.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualification & Skills
• Master’s degree in Education, History, Jewish Studies, or a related field required; Ph.D. preferred.
• Demonstrated expertise in Holocaust history, pedagogy, or related areas of modern European or Jewish history.
• Minimum 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in education, nonprofit, or cultural institutions.
• Proven ability to lead and supervise staff, including mentoring, performance management, and team coordination.
• Experience designing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs, curriculum, or public programs for diverse audiences.
• Successful record of building partnerships with teachers, schools, universities, and community organizations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting to both professional and general audiences.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with staff, volunteers, and community partners.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
• Commitment to inclusive and culturally sensitive education practices.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and travel as needed.

This is a sedentary role; Physical requirement of being able to lift 15 pounds at times. The position primarily involves working at a desk, sitting for extended periods while using a computer, phone, or other digital devices.

About Holocaust Memorial
In 1984, a small group of Holocaust survivors came together to create a lasting memorial in Miami honoring the six million Jews who perished at the hands of the Nazis. The following year, the Holocaust Memorial Committee was officially established as a private nonprofit organization.
