The Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh is the central fundraising and community planning organization for the Pittsburgh Jewish community. We provide funding to local and overseas partner agencies, as well as independent programs that provide health and human welfare services.



Reporting to the Director, Development and Community Campaign, the Manager, Young Adult Philanthropy will provide a gateway for involvement in the Jewish community for young Jewish adults, ages 22 – 45. The Manager holds primary responsibility for working with young adult donors on their philanthropic journey. This position fosters engagement in Jewish life and creates a pipeline and training ground for our next generation of philanthropists and leaders.


Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Manage development and fundraising efforts for YAD.
  • Cultivate and steward a portfolio of approximately 45 donors and prospects.
  • Develop a pipeline of prospects for major gift and deeper philanthropic development.
  • Recruit, train and manage a volunteer team of solicitors for the Community Campaign.
  • Cultivate and recruit young leaders to serve on the Jewish Federations of North America Young Leadership Cabinet (minimum gift of $5,000) and steward their leadership participation on a local level.
  • Work in partnership with the YAD chairperson (a volunteer) to set the strategic direction for, and manage, the volunteer experience of young adult campaign solicitors.
  • Serve as primary young adult liaison with Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA), linking local efforts with national programs including National Young Leadership Cabinet, Missions, and national conferences.
  • Partner cross-departmentally to implement leadership programs to strengthen lay engagement (with a focus on young adults) including SteelTree, Wechsler Leadership Fellowship and Ben-Gurion Society
  • Participate in Development Department activities, Federation-wide events, and fundraising initiatives; work collaboratively with Development affinities and colleagues organization-wide.
  • Partner with the Marketing Department to create and implement marketing strategies that maximize connection to young adults, including successful utilization of new media and e-philanthropy.



Preferred qualifications include:

  • Bachelors’ degree, preferably in organizational management, Jewish studies, communal work, or related. Masters’ degree is preferred.
  • 3-5+ years of fundraising, programming, or related experience, with Jewish communal field or Federation background a plus. 
  • Confident professional with experience working with volunteer leadership, a magnetic and welcoming personality.
  • Must have a demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the Jewish community, Israel and world Jewry, and a keen sense of trends and culture of the young adult community.
  • Must be a leader and innovator with excellent interpersonal skills; someone others will respond to and trust.
  • Superior communication skills; excellent writing and articulate speaking ability. 
  • Experience in direct fundraising solicitation, volunteer engagement and group facilitation helpful.
  • Flexibility and ability to focus on detail while handling multiple tasks and diverse personalities. 
  • Experience in developing and monitoring a
  • Computer skills:  Microsoft Suite, social media (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok). CRM experience preferred.
  • Must provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19
  • Valid PA drivers’ license must be maintained throughout the year.
  • Must be available to work some evenings, weekends and be able to travel for local meetings.


This position has a competitive salary of $60,000 to $70,000 a year to commensurate with experience.
