Role Overview

The Communications Manager oversees all communication efforts at Harvard Hillel, focusing 80% on alumni, parents, and supporters, and 20% on student communications. This includes digital and print content such as emails, mailings, brochures, website, and social media.

Working with the Interim Director of Development and Executive Director, this role shapes the communications strategy, manages mailings, and maintains the website. The Communications Manager reports to the Interim Director of Development and is part of the Development Team.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive communications strategy.
  • Manage website content and design.
  • Oversee social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, etc.) and email lists.
  • Ensure all materials align with Harvard Hillel’s branding and goals.
  • Lead production of marketing materials, including video content.
  • Collect and organize media (photos/videos) from events.
  • Support direct mail and email fundraising campaigns (e.g., high holiday and end-of-year campaigns).
  • Assist with stewardship by communicating the impact of donor contributions and developing parent and alumni engagement programs.
  • Collaborate with student life staff to improve student communications.
  • Utilize data analytics to guide strategic decisions for communications and fundraising.
  • Advise staff on brand management.
  • Serve on the Communications Committee of the Board.
  • Participate in key programs and events such as Shabbat and holidays.
  • Assist the programming staff with cohesive messaging.

What You’ve Accomplished

  • A bachelor’s degree and at least five years of experience in comprehensive strategic marketing and communications programs to advance an organization's mission and goals.
  • Knowledge of essential computer software programs, including Microsoft Word and Excel, and the agility and resourcefulness to learn new technologies. Proficiency in using database software and reporting functions (Donor Perfect).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; able to communicate appropriately through email, formal letters, and reports.
