The Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA)’s Public Affairs division, the policy arm of JFNA, is seeking a remote part-time intern for late fall 2021 and winter 2022 with an interest in advocacy and public policy, with a particular focus on supporting the coordination of the Jewish Disability Advocacy Day (JDAD) virtual conference and advancing federal legislation that will enable people with disabilities to lead fuller, more independent, and more productive lives. These issues are of great importance to Jewish Federations and our affiliated social service agencies.

JFNA is among the top 10 charities in the world. JFNA’s Public Affairs division brings the voice of 146 Jewish community federations and over 300 independent Jewish communities throughout North America to Capitol Hill and the Administration as a prominent force in policy decision-making. The intern will be assigned to assist senior JFNA government relations professionals.

Tasks may include coordination of JDAD program partners and speakers; research and writing related to Jewish Federations’ legislative and policy priorities, program communications, and corporate sponsors; the development of advocacy tools to educate and engage legislators and community members in support of JFNA’s policy priorities; scheduling prospective virtual group meetings with members of Congress; attending meetings with congressional staff and/or coalition partners; conducting outreach with potential sponsors, and responding to inquiries from registrants and partners. 

Requirements

  • Proficient in using Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Self-starter with a positive attitude and strong organizational skills
  • Professional behavior, and ability to work with diverse personalities and work styles
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work independently
  • Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student preferred
  • Interest or background in advocacy and federal disability and/or public policy in general
  • Ability to work remotely with supervision
